  • Spacious farm site over two acres on the banks of the river Marlais
  • Brechfa Forest and Brecon Beacons within a half-hour drive
  • Open-air hot shower, campfire areas and secure bike storage available
Up for meandering along the Marlais river? At this peaceful farm site you'll be able to wander, picnic and set up campfires on both sides of its splendid banks. Glynmarch Farm is about a mile away from the small village of Llansawel, a handy location indeed given that two top-rated pubs are within easy walking distance. This well-connected spot is well-placed for those looking to explore Carmarthenshire and beyond: checking out the depths of Brechfa Forest (20 minutes' drive) and exploring the wide open spaces of the Brecon Beacons National Park (30 minutes) are two jaunts that the owners highly recommend. The pitches at this site are spread over two acres of countryside and have views over two gorgeous valleys. Wild swims in the river can also be sorted. Facilities-wise, Glynmarch Farm strikes a balance between convenience and keeping things on the wild side: there's a hot open-air shower, a washing-up point and toilets of both the composting and flushing variety. Cycling types may be pleased to note that a covered barn is available for safe and secure bike storage. Other parts of the farm are also fair game for rambling – keep your eyes peeled for the inquisitive Glynmarch resident sheep if coming here in the summer or autumn months. Barbecues and campfires can be lit at several spots around the site, all of which have been chosen for their specially scenic surrounds.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: We arrived early in the season and had the place to ourselves, which was a real treat. The owner was really friendly and kind, and was happy to talk to us about the local area. The pitch was on the hillside, with short grass areas for tents and sections left for wildflowers, and a short walk down to the river below. All the facilities were clean, well presented and easy to use. The view of the hills opposite is spectacular, and the site is very peaceful and quiet, with nothing but the sound of birds and sheep.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Hosts were very welcoming, and the location is simply stunning… a quiet valley, where you are serenaded by lambs and bird song. What a peaceful place. Clearly run by people who care about what they’re doing. They took a chance on having a solo biker stay (many wouldn’t when I was hunting for a stop over), and if any other site owners want to know how to do a compost toilet properly, visit this site. I wish I could’ve stayed longer.

Disliked: Nothing - great site, great people.

Liked: Beautiful, quiet, secluded spot. Nice washing, toilet and shower facilities.

Disliked: No sign from main road so I rode straight past the turning on my bike. Added a few unwanted Km to my day!

Liked: The perfect campsite! The owner is super friendly & nothing is a problem. He's very laid back & that spills over into the general atmosphere of the campsite. The facilities are spotlessly clean. The views & night skies are stunning & the riverside location make this the best campsite ever!

Local attractions

Dragons love to guard it, Celtic kings couldn't get enough of it and modern British royals don't settle for anything else when choosing a wedding ring – suffice it to say that Welsh gold is a rare and splendid thing indeed. Make for Dolaucothi Gold Mines (15 minutes' drive) to see how it's been hunted out since Roman times (the surrounding National Trust-managed land is also a treasure trove of wildlife, so bring some binoculars too). After delving into the past at the mines, pedalling through Brechfa Forest (20 minutes), exploring Dinefwr Castle (25 minutes) and pottering around the National Botanic Gardens of Wales (35 minutes) can all be added to the agenda; if you organise yourself well there'll also be some time left over to visit gorgeous Llyn Brianne lake (an hour). Wales has some 1,370 miles of coastline to its name, and while Glynmarch Farm isn't the most obvious spot for beach holidays it can certainly be done. Aberaeron (40 minutes) is a top pick if you're heading west, while Tenby (an hour and 10 minutes) is a must if you plump for Pembrokeshire.
