  • Eco-friendly glampsite on a small organic farm in Carmarthenshire
  • Welsh Wildlife Centre 35 minutes’ drive; Oakwood Theme Park 55 minutes
  • Licensed bar and restaurant; West Wales Trails Bike Park on site
With a mixture of accommodation spaces all restored, upcycled or built in situ, the team at Ceridwen Centre is justly proud of the site’s eco-credentials. Set on a 40-acre, family-run organic farm five minutes’ drive from the Carmarthenshire village of Dre-fach Felindre, this family-friendly camping and glamping spot sits in a wooded valley with views over rural west Wales. The owners have planted more than 4,500 trees across their land, and guests benefit from sustainable biomass heating as well as solar power to heat the water. Green criteria extend to the catering too. Pre-ordered veggie meals are available, with all ingredients sourced straight from the owners’ organic gardens or from small-scale local producers. A seasonal menu of plant-based dishes, pizza and burgers is cooked over a wood fire in the outdoor courtyard kitchen, where a licensed bar opens at 5.30pm on Friday and Saturday nights. If you’re looking for a bit of sporting activity, jump on your bicycle and test your mettle by negotiating dirt trails at the on-site West Wales Trails Bike Park. If you’d prefer a gentle country stroll in the Teifi Valley – perhaps accompanied by your family dog – there are walks in quiet lanes directly from the pitches.

Electric grass and gravel motorhome pitch

Liked: Well what a peaceful stay we had at Ceridwen Centre! If you are looking for a quite country side retreat with endless views of greenery in every direction here is the place for you ! Yes the toilet and showers are in wooden huts but clean and electricity to plug your equipment into ! So all you need to do is sit back and just enjoy the back to nature feeling you will get with this location!

Disliked: With so many campsite around our country we try not to go back to the same ones ! So we wouldn’t say here again for that reason!

Geodesic dome

Liked: Secluded private area, which we weren't expecting. Separate hut with private toilet and shower - was nice not to have to use shared facilities. Proper beds! Loved it and the single beds weren't silly pull out beds but proper beds. Kitchen great assett and place to play games and cards. Dog was very happy too! She felt safe and happy with our private area, nothing made her bark. Even in 50mph winds there was no noise on the dome or movement - very sturdy! All the staff we met were so helpful and clearly love being there. Took a little walk of the whole site and its stunning - back to nature can hear the birds and see the stars! Bring a power bank for your phone as no electric in dome.

Disliked: I'm sure on pitch up, the description said fridge in kitchen - but there isn't. Cool box and ice packs provided but it's not the same. Maybe consider adding gas powered fridge?

Liked: Beautiful scenery from campsite. Lovely play equipment for the children. Clean facilities. A restaurant on site which we didn't try out but it look great and would definitely come back again to Tey and stay in one of the glamping pods.

Local attractions

Learn about the importance of the former textile industry to west Wales through hands-on exhibits at the National Wool Museum (five minutes’ drive), and support the local economy by buying a soft woollen blanket woven in a traditional Welsh pattern to take home as a souvenir. Spend time among the Mediterranean plantings in the world’s biggest single-span glasshouse at the National Botanic Garden of Wales (40 minutes), and see another magical garden (one with 15th-century origins, no less) being brought back to life at Aberglasney (45 minutes). Continuing the outdoor theme, see if you can spot otters or voles at the Welsh Wildlife Centre (35 minutes) or Teifi Marshes Nature Reserve (half an hour). Any teens will probably vote for a day on high-octane coasters at Oakwood Theme Park (55 minutes), while younger kids will love the fairground carousels, big cats and cuddly Shetland ponies at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo (50 minutes). To meet handsome steeds of a slightly bigger stature, head for Dyfed Shire Horse Farm (35 minutes).
