What customers say

Great spot for Monmouth. Staff are friendly, pitches are roomy grass. But, facilities need serious TLC: showers/toilets are iffy, paid showers don't always work, no hot water. Expect some noise, dog poo, and tired amenities.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Terrible… no organisation at all. You just park wherever and pitch up wherever. No water on grass electric pitches. Reception doesn’t answer when you call them. Showers are just disgusting, dirty, smelly barely working with no space to change and they cost 20p for 4min which also includes you getting ready for the shower as water starts running immediately! Only two out of 4 sink taps worked. Dish washing room absolutely disgusting, looks like it hasn’t been cleaned for years. We also had two dog poos around our pitch.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The site was good in as much as lots of pitches fully serviced. We booked two fully serviced pitches but nobody there when we arrived and people taking whichever pitch they wanted so only because we came early did we get two pitches together. a very busy site but not much room to sit or play games etc.
We picked a pitch that was not too bad but still very crowded. I do not think charging for showers is good on any site especially when not many people carry cash anymore and the showers and toilets could do with a revamp as three sinks did not have water etc.
We enjoyed our stay but would not return for these reasons

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Nice and local to the town centre.
People was nice on the site

Disliked I was really disappointed in the site itself. It’s in huge need for a revamp! Site is very run down, patio slabs cracked & falling apart, grass wasn’t kept nice, shower block was grubby & showers were really not nice.
One thing that I didn’t like and this sounds awful but every other campsite I’ve been too has an area for dogs to mess. Everyone was walking their dogs and letting them mess were kids we’re playing. I’m not being a Karen but when it’s right outside the pitch I was in I didn’t like it. My little one was playing on the rock with his bike and then he couldn’t because this dog messed all over it. I think it’s a huge health and safety risk for children who are playing!! They deffo need an area for dogs to go to toilet! I have a dog myself and I just wouldn’t walk him around where children are for the toilet. I would take him to an empty area out the way.
Also the one thing that made me never want to return again was the smell of sewerage all throughout the site! It was actually unbearable at some points. It was a continuous smell and it really put me off.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Site warden was friendly and helpful, great location for visiting the town.

Disliked We didn’t end up staying the night as the kids wanted to go home after a week touring! But, the shower blocks weren’t particularly clean, the site has lots of security, gates, barriers and rising/lowering bollards which actually had the adverse effect for us, we felt that there may have been historic problems, not fact, just our assumption. The pitches were of a decent size but seemed unkept with broken slabs and uneven ground.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked The lady at reception was friendly.

Disliked The toilets sink and showers were very dirty
You have to pay to use the showers one unit took £1 and didn’t even work, you cannot change the water temperature and it was so hot the kids couldn’t use them.
There was lots of dog mess on the site.
Clearly long term residents staying there.
The language throughout the site at all hours definitely wasn’t suitable for young children.
There are dogs in kennels around the site constantly barking and being told to shut up, all look very neglected and uncared for.
It was upsetting staying there.
Also there were young kids wondering around the site unsupervised at all hours including two 2 year olds at 9:30pm alone in the toilet block.
The child’s park was full of rubbish and old vapes.
Wouldn’t recommend visiting the site.

Local attractions

This is walking land… Monmouthshire has over 1,000 miles of public footpaths to investigate, and walks all over the county including a couple around Glen Trothy's local village of Mitchel Troy, through woods and farmland and with views right across Wales and across the border to Herefordshire. County town Monmouth, the birthplace of Henry V, is these days a Fair Trade town with many independent shops, regular markets, cafés and restaurants alongside chain shops, the Monmouth Museum and the Savoy Theatre, believed to be the oldest working theatre in Wales. If you'd rather get a bit more active, the River Wye is around for kayaking and paddleboarding (and fishing for more contemplative times), and golf is available nearby. Too tame? Take a tandem paraglide flight off the Blorenge hill in the Brecon Beacons National Park. If the weather is a bit drizzly, piles of indoor attractions are around too, like the museums of Abergavenny, Monmouth or Chepstow or a castle visit to Caldicot and its country park, Tretower Court, Goodrich or Raglan.
