  • Spectacular setting for the Gower Peninsula, overlooking Oxwich Bay
  • Refurbished eco-friendly shower block with underfloor heating
  • Large adventure playground
You will, of course, have heard of the great Gower Peninsula. This spectacular south Wales spot of cliffs, coves, caves and bays is so handsome it was designated the first Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the UK way back in 1956, made up of 70 square miles from Loughor Estuary to Swansea Bay; if you've never been, this really must be on your holiday list. The folk at award-winning Greenways of Gower Premier Leisure Park reckon their location is 'second to none' for Gower camping – and once you arrive there, you'll reckon they're right. Right in the centre of the peninsula, Greenways overlooks stunning Oxwich Bay and its two and a half miles of golden sands, once named as the best beach in Britain; Rhossili Bay, several times voted the best beach in Wales, is under 20 minutes' drive from here. Greenways is a family-run and family-orientated park, with grass pitches and plenty of space. Gratified previous guests have lauded the amenities as 'exceptional': they include an eco-friendly and modern shower block with underfloor heating running off an air source heat pump, plus disabled facilities and a parent and baby washroom. For leisurely pursuits, a big adventure playground is next to the camping area. There's also a pizza truck and a pop-up bar on site (these two are available on weekends in the summer or on bank holidays). Shops and restaurants are within walking distance.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Really clean facilities, friendly security, grass is great condition, no road noise, good access to Oxwich Bay (and Horton, Rhossili etc. by car). Worth noting there is a big hill between Oxwich Bay and the campsite which isn’t insurmountable but if you have kids and heavy beach items then it may be worth driving.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: The quiet space, nice view, spacious pitches, mostly clean. Very quiet at night, respectful guests

Disliked: Pushbutton showers, cleanliness of the women's toilets (kind of expected in a busy camping site). Phone wasn't being monitored on that day and we couldn't get through to them.

Non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Beautiful location. Park for children was very good. Great that you get to pick where you pitch. Laundry room available. Freezers available to store foods - left at own risk. Drinking water available. Showers are lovely and clean, with underfloor heating which was great.

Disliked: Water was turned off at 11pm, unable to wash hands or flush the toilet after 11pm. No drinking water either.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (two person)

Liked: Gorgeous location, facilities were brilliant and very clean, nice quiet site

Disliked: Lack of small bins around the site, the large biffas were very full and there were no dedicated recycling bins for us to separate any rubbish. A small shop would be a really good addition to the site in the future.

Local attractions

The stunning sands of Oxwich Bay and their fringe of dunes, woodland and coastal footpath should be your first Gower Peninsula port of call, for long lazy days sunbathing and sandcastle building, summer watersports such as sailing, swimming, windsurfing and diving, and boat and jetski launch from the beach. Around the sands, this is prime walking land: take the Gower Coast Path from the bay for a three-and-a-half-mile coastal and woodland ramble to Oxwich Point, or around the same distance from the bay to Port Eynon Walk via Three Cliffs Bay and Port Head. The wetland site of Oxwich National Nature Reserve, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, is also well worth a wander. For a city sightseeing day, Swansea is half an hour's drive from the park.
