  • Quiet rural location with spectacular views to Snowdonia National Park
  • A 20-minute drive to Rhosneigr beach; 30 minutes to Beaumaris Castle
  • Peaceful site near to pubs and shops, surfing beaches and golf courses
What a spot for all you outdoor adventurers who fancy a very quiet, peaceful wild camping mini-break. The Old Castle Site may be in a peaceful and rural Anglesey location, but it’s also close to cycling trails, golf courses, surfing schools and sailing clubs, so there are heaps of ways to get out and about while you’re here. Nothing is really very far away on Anglesey, but at this site you’ve also got the added bonus that activities like climbing and ziplining in Snowdonia National Park are less than 40 minutes’ drive away – in fact you can peek out of your tent and see the mountains in the distance. The grass pitches are in an elevated position, all the better for you to take in these magnificent views. It's a very quiet site; no music or late-night noise is permitted The coast is designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and you'll have a wide choice of beaches too. Travelling with the kids? Head for bucket-and-spade adventures at Rhosneigr (20 minutes’ drive). Fancy a woodland walk with your swim? Try Traeth Llanddwyn (25 minutes), backed by pine forest and undulating dunes. As this is back-to-basics camping, facilities on site are minimal. Barbecues are allowed (bring your own) so head to the market town of Llangefni (10 minutes) to pick up essentials in a choice of supermarkets – and there are plenty of pubs, pizza places and takeaways if you’ve sworn off cooking for your holiday.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely owners, very friendly and accommodating. Campsite wasn’t overcrowded and has lovely views of snowdonia

Disliked: Only one proper toilet, one portaloo and two showers Showers were very small, dark and claustrophobic, with no space to hang clothes or towels without getting them wet. Be sure to bring cash because there’s no card machine to pay and no signal for bank transfer

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: AMAZING CAMPSITE. Owners couldn't be more helpful if they tried, it's small and quiet, perfect safe space for young children to have freedom to run around. Facilities are great; there's a kettle, toaster and microwave which all making camping that little bit easier. Toilet is a portaloo BUT it is mains plumbed and a 'proper toilet' and impeccably clean. Again showers are basic in terms of setting but nice and hot and powerful and included- much better than some places we have been. We would come back a million times over. Perfect location for exploring everywhere in angelesey and owners will give great tips of where to go etc. There's a woodland area where you can pitch as well if you wanted a bit more quiet and secluded. And wonderful views of the mountains.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Fantastic campsite! There are so many spots to pitch your tent, either for a forest feel or an open field. The owners are lovely and very welcoming. They would also provide some excellent recommendations of where to visit. Great location!! The amenities at the campsite include a communal area with outdoor seating, microwave, fridge, freezer, toaster, kettle, charging facilities and board games. There are toilets, washing up area and hot showers. There is great signal including 5G and there are also a few fire pits that you can use. 100% will visit again. Thank you very much for such a wonderful stay.

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Owners were chatty and kind, very relaxed and social site. Decent facilities & Friendly campers. We were able to check in at any point and the owners let us take our time packing up on the bank holiday Monday. They had a barn that let us charge devices and a shared fridge. We had the option of two fields to camp on, one in a small woodland area with open grass pitches, and a large field.

Disliked: Nothing to complain about

Non-electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Pitches weren't restricted on size so lots of room for tents/cars etc.

Disliked: Showers are not fit for purpose. Ended up having to go to a different campsite to shower. Two toilets on the entire site, one being a porta loo, and the other being a small outhouse style toilet. Not great. No bins in the toilets either. No changing facilities if camping with young children.

Local attractions

Anglesey may be mainly about outdoors fun and sports, but there’s plenty of culture to be found here too. Tour the imposing ruins of moated 13th-century Beaumaris Castle (30 minutes’ drive), or tour the gardens and arboretum at National Trust-owned Plas Newydd House and Gardens (20 minutes), overlooking the sparkling Menai Strait. Your kids will probably demand the beach, and there are several within 30 minutes’ drive, all with fine sand and clear waters. Should they ever tire of splashing in the sea, take them to meet the meerkats at Pili Palas Nature World or to see marine conservation in action at Anglesey Sea Zoo (both 20 minutes). Back over the Britannia Bridge in mainland Wales, you might like to head for the mazes and magic shows at GreenWood Family Park (30 minutes), or plan a scenic journey aboard a steam train along Llanberis Lake Railway (40 minutes).
