How to sum up Penllystyn Farm? There's a lot to like about this Gwynedd smallholding site, but the three main highlights have got to be the seriously good views, waterside walks and all-round chilled farm vibes. Here you'll be sitting pretty in the small village of Bryncir, just outside Snowdonia National Park and a 10-minute drive from the coast. Around the 10-acre site are a handful of farm animals along with a small woodland area and a riverside picnic spot, where you can also take a paddle or let the dogs cool off with a dip. Picnics, barbecues and campfires are all encouraged around here, but there’s also a good local pub/restaurant half a mile away if you fancy eating out. It should be pretty easy to reach the other amenities in the surrounding area, as the farm is just off the speedy A487 main road. Where that road takes you is totally up to you, but one thing's for sure – you won't feel boxed in here. To the east, you have the myriad walks and adventurous activities of Snowdonia, while those who head north will be rewarded with such spots as Caernarfon Castle and Anglesey. Meanwhile, set your sights on the south or west for days out on the spectacular beaches of the Llŷn Peninsula, treks around the wild Wales Coast Path or sightseeing in the pastel-coloured town of Portmeirion.

A quiet, roomy farm campsite with lovely nature, a stream & animals. Clean loos/showers, though a bit scarce when busy. Campfires okay, pick your spot. Good value base for exploring. Dog welfare at the entrance cages is a concern.

Liked It’s £10 a night and we got a pitch right next to the stream. Wasn’t hassled by anyone left to ourselves. Has everything you need. Toilet block with a shower. A drinking tap and outside cleaning sink.

Liked Scenic views. Quiet, relaxed site. Cleanliness of the facilities. Ease of booking. Great value for money (very reasonable charges). Good public transport links.

Disliked Only one sink, one shower and two toilets. Two of each would be better to reduce queuing and for comfort/ease.

Liked A simple, straight forward campsite, with very well maintained facilities. Ground was good, vibes were good, goats were getting up to mischief

Disliked Nothing. Other reviewers have noted the limited number of toilets (2) and shower (1) there were minimal queues whilst we were there (in August) but could see how this might be an issue if the site was full. Also, if you’re staying on a farm and complaining about cocks crowing at dawn you need to question your own decisions not the site.
