Electric grass pitch

  • Peaceful, fully serviced North Wales site on the edge of Snowdonia
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool on site, plus 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the beautiful North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, they come with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and complete with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely site; we were on pitch 102 which was a larger corner pitch, really good space for the kids tucked away. Nice and quiet, nice facilities for the most part.

Disliked Although facilities (toilets and shower) were modern and clean, as our area got busier could of done with a few more toilets etc

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback — we're so glad you enjoyed your stay and that pitch 102 worked well for you and the kids! It’s great to hear you appreciated the peaceful atmosphere and modern facilities.

We appreciate your note about the number of toilets and showers as the site got busier. Just a note for your next visit, that our main block (just a short walk from your field does have a number of toilets and showers.

We hope to welcome you back again soon!

Great site, we had a hard standing level pitch. Friendly staff.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly staff welcomed us and found a pitch, even though we hadn't pre booked. Site very convenient for the lovely sandy beach. Thought the railway line running between the site and the beach might be a problem but it wasn't at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I think that you may have mixed up our site with another one, as there isn't a railway running near us.
I'm pleased to hear that we could accommodate you on our level hard standing pitch and that it was to your liking.

Fully-serviced grass tent pitch

Liked Excellent pitch with water & electric. Great WiFi signal, easy to access. Pitch felt private and sheltered. Site very well maintained. Staff who run it friendly and helpful. Showers, toilets, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer, ironing board, everything you could need for basic comforts, and always clean. Also pool table, table tennis and other games.
Lots of land to walk on, a lot of it left to nature but with good paths. Nice pond with bench. So many birds and insects about :-)
Within easy reach of Bangor, Caernarfon, Anglesey and Llyn Peninsula. Ideally located.
Half way through the week, some people arrived who let’s just say weren’t the best neighbours. They were promptly asked to leave. Staff take it seriously if people aren’t respecting site rules that are there to make sure no one’s holiday is ruined.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful and comfortable stay.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Recommend to friends Visit again

We’re especially pleased you made use of the walking areas and enjoyed the local wildlife — it's something we love about the site too. We also appreciate your kind words about how we handle site rules; maintaining a peaceful environment for all our guests is very important to us.

It was a pleasure having you with us, and we’d be absolutely thrilled to welcome you back anytime. Thanks again for the recommendation!

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
