  • Small family-friendly caravan site with Irish Sea views in Gwynedd
  • Trefor Beach five minutes’ drive; Inigo Jones Slate Works 15 minutes
  • Barbecues and dogs welcome; pub and shops five minutes’ drive
When you’re looking for a convenient base in Gwynedd to overnight or bed down for a week or so, Penlon Caravan and Camping has got you covered. With a handy location just off the main Caernarfon to Pwllheli Road (A499), this dog-friendly park is set on a farm within easy reach of the coast as well as walking in the Rivals Hills (Yr Eifl), golf courses and museums. The level grass pitches all have a bird’s-eye view of the Irish Sea, with the nearest (sand and pebble) beach being at Trefor (five minutes’ drive), a small village where you can also pick up basics from the shop or post office. There’s a pub (with pool and darts for any rainy days) there too, with magical views over Yr Eifl from the beer garden. Back on the caravan site, useful family facilities include a utility room with a sink, washing machine and dryer so you can keep everything shipshape. There are also a couple of spacious and spotless shower rooms, one with amenities for disabled guests. Barbecues are also welcome on site as long as you take care not to damage the grass.

What customers say

A lovely, tranquil spot with brilliant views and great amenities. Owner Mary is consistently praised for being super friendly and helpful. Perfect base for Llyn Peninsula adventures. Minor road noise noted, but peace and scenery win out for most. Lots of guests keen to come back.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very reasonably priced. Nice quiet pitch. About 28 mins walk to the beach via the longer route, not on main road. Great woodland to explore behind site. Mary the 1st point of contact was very nice and friendly. Facilities nice and clean.

The beach area is great for families with fishing and crabbing. There's a public toilets there open till about 6pm.

Disliked Nothing.

We had a fantastic time at this campsite. The location is really great with plenty of beautiful walking trails and nice spots to explore nearby, so you’ll definitely have places to go and things to see. The atmosphere was peaceful, clean, and very welcoming. Would gladly come back again!

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely quiet campsite. We were greeted by the owner who was very friendly and helpful. The mountain and sea views are amazing. Trefor beach is only a mile away and again has amazing views. The kids had a great time and have asked if we can go back. We will definitely be going back again.

Disliked Can’t really think of anything to dislike about this campsite.

Liked Location, as described, nice and peaceful, friendly host and visitors. The set up is great, electric hook up, shower and toilet block and the washing up area has a fully functioning washer, dryer and kettle. Everything very clean

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Lovely small site not far from Trefor.
We only stayed for one night whilst on our travels but we will be back for sure.
Toilets are clean and showers are a £1 but they last for ages and the price makes up for the small charge
Mary was lovely and made a fuss of our frenchies.

Disliked Nothing at all

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Amazing views from the pitch field in each direction, you are always looking at something beautiful.

Each to get into both Caernarfon and Pwllheli, plus the entire Llyn peninsula is on your doorstop

Disliked Slight road noise, but I expected that before I booked.
You have to pay for showers, which is only annoying as you need 20p or £1 coins, and i had no cash

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your kind review.
Hope you got your car fixed.
Payment for showers goes to pay towards electricity and water bill, our water is on a meter so every drop is paid for by us.

Despite those minor things, we will defo return !

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Pros:
Easy Access & Peaceful Nights: Very easy to find as it’s just off the main road. While it gets a bit busy during the day, it was wonderfully quiet and peaceful at night - defo need a torch!

Huge Pitches & Great Choice: The pitches are massive, and we loved the "choose your own pitch" system.

Stunning Views: The scenery is next level! (Tip: If the bushes were trimmed back a bit more, the sea views would be incredible, though we totally understand why they are left as they are).

Handy Facilities: Water points are conveniently scattered throughout the field.

Fantastic Management: A huge shoutout to Mary—she is definitely on the ball! When there was a plumbing issue with the toilet and shower block, she had it sorted by a plumber the very next day. Thank you again, Mary!

Disliked Not really a Dislike more of a Room for Improvement / Tips for Future Guests:

Non-EHU Option: We don't normally use Electric Hook-Up (EHU), so it would be brilliant if they offered a non-EHU caravan option in the future via pitch up, that would certainly bring us back even sooner.

Website Clarity: Just a heads-up for future guests or the site owner Mary: please update the website to clarify that the site counts a sun canopy as an awning. It’s the first time we’ve come across that policy, but we got it sorted out (thank you again)

Also it states on the pitch up site no Firepits are allowed but we were there for 2 weeks and can certainly say people had them even when we got the “ alert message from the gov” stating no fires were allowed.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
Your comments have been noted.
I don't charge extra for EHU, do holidaymakers don't have to use them.
As advertised on PitchUp Open fire are prohibited, but not every holidaymaker reads the rules.
Glad you enjoyed your time with us.
Best wishes
