A trip to north Wales can mean many things… for some it’s all about the action-packed adventures, while for others it’s more of a quiet-time thing, allowing some hours for activities like fishing, photography or art. Whichever of these you’ve got in mind (or perhaps a mix of both), you’ll be in a good location at Glanllyn - Lakeside Caravan and Camping Park. This Gwynedd site is right on the shores of Bala Lake (Llyn Tegid), with its own private pebbly stretch of beach where you're welcome to go wild swimming. For an additional fee, grab permits for fishing permit or launching your own paddleboarding, kayaking or windsurfing equipment. Staying at such a strategic spot in the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park also means that you’ll have access to lots more activities in the surroundings too, from hikes and mountain bike outings to gorge walking, ziplining and cave adventures. Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the big climb, about an hour’s drive away, but there are several other mountains closer by that also offer up good challenges – take a look at Arenig Fawr or Aran Benllyn. Of course that lakeside location is a fabulous one for the serenity-seekers too – the park stretches out over 16 acres of tree-lined level parkland, so there’s plenty of space to soak up those stunning views towards the surrounding hills and mountains. All the essential facilities are covered here, including a launderette, a small food shop, a washing-up area, showers and toilets – plus a play area for any kids you haven’t yet worn out. Barbecue and campfire cooking is permitted, and you’ll be able to pick up wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends.

Lovely lakeside site with direct lake access for watersports. Clean facilities, friendly staff, and spacious pitches. Great for families, peaceful vibe. Can get busy with some noise at peak times. WiFi and dog walking areas could be improved.

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked Nice and clean campsite. But it’s no much space especially the caravan site. And owner got little rude in end.

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re pleased to hear you found the campsite clean and well-maintained.
However, we must address your comments regarding the end of your stay. Multiple guests reported noise disturbances well beyond our designated quiet hours, and our warden was called out as a result. In addition, rubbish was left on your pitch, which other campers also brought to our attention. We take these matters seriously, as they impact the experience of everyone on site.
We do our best to treat all guests respectfully, but we also have a responsibility to uphold our site rules and protect the comfort of others. We regret if this was perceived as rudeness, but we will always act when necessary to maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for all.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Very welcoming and pleasant staff, took us directly to our site and had a guided tour. Very clean toilets and shower rooms, everybody respectful of communal areas 🥰 lovely quiet place to visit. Really enjoyed our stay and well worth the visit, we will be back next year to enjoy the water sports too. Lovely little corner shop.

Disliked A huge family turned up and kept us awake with their constant shouting and screaming, which spoilt one of our nights. But the next day were asked to leave by management. So there is definately a No tolerance to people’s peace and quiet. So thank you for that. Totally respectful.

Non-electric grass campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities

Disliked Disruptive, unsupervised teenagers, the use of drones and electric bikes speeding around camp

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re sorry to hear that aspects of your stay didn’t meet your expectations.
As you visited during the peak summer holiday period, the site was naturally much busier, with more families and teenagers enjoying their break. We do our best to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all guests.
Please note that drones are not permitted on site, as clearly stated in our terms and conditions. Had we been made aware of any drone use or disruptive behaviour during your stay, we would have acted immediately. Unfortunately, no issues were reported to us at the time, which limited our ability to address them.
We always encourage guests to speak to us during their stay so we can resolve any concerns in real time.

Electric grass touring caravan pitch

Liked Warm greeting, clean facilities
Great site for kids and for access to the lake and river. Easy cycle in to Bala.

Disliked How close the sites were to each other. Felt like we were hemmed in. Noise very late at night plus fireworks which really upset the dog. No one told us there would be fireworks. We would never have brought the dog to a site that allows fireworks as she is petrified of them. We left a day early as the poor dog was traumatized.
Poor placement of toilet roll holder they are behind the toilet on the wall which makes them totally inaccessible.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet expectations, particularly in relation to your dog being distressed by fireworks. We completely understand how upsetting this can be, and we wish you had reached out to us at the time — we would have been happy to clarify that the fireworks were not from our park. In fact, we do not permit fireworks on site, and the brief display you heard originated from a location approximately 8 miles away across the other side of the lake.

During peak summer holidays, the park is indeed very busy, and while this can lead to a more compact feel, we do our best to manage space while accommodating as many guests as possible.

We’re glad you appreciated the cleanliness of our facilities and the lake access, and we hope, despite the issues raised, you’ll consider visiting us again.

Really great site for caravans, tents and motor homes.
