  • Award-winning small and peaceful site on a Denbighshire working farm
  • A 10-minute drive to beaches; 40 minutes to Snowdonia National Park
  • Views of the Clwydian Range; 10 minutes' walk to eateries in Rhuddlan
Birds singing, lambs baaing, cows mooing
it’s all about the wake-up calls at Abbey Farm Caravan and Camping, and it’s likely that even reluctant early risers will be keen to get up and about once those rural sounds start up. At this peaceful farm in the Denbighshire countryside, you’ll get a warm welcome from Rob and Celia, their children Lewis and Owen and friendly sheepdogs Buster and Jess. Take a stroll around and you’ll often spot free-range chickens wandering about the place too – they’re the ones that provide freshly laid eggs for sale each day. Surrounded by cows and sheep grazing, plus lovely views of the Clwydian Range, the site has a bit of history behind it, too: the farm’s location was once a Dominican friary, and you can still see remnants of that past in the abbey buildings. (Not often you get to stay at a field that’s part of a Scheduled Ancient Monument, right?) It’s the kind of place where families and couples can kick back and relax with simple facilities on hand, including three bathroom blocks (for toilets and showers), plus a utility area for washing-up, complete with a communal fridge and freezer. Getting out to handy amenities is straightforward: it’s about a 10-minute walk to the lovely village of Rhuddlan for cafĂ©s, pubs and shops – plus a castle (this is Wales, after all). Days out should also be easy enough, as there are main roads nearby, but you’ll face a choice: up to the coast for a beach day (10 minutes’ drive), or over to Snowdonia for hikes and other outdoor activities (40 minutes)?

From the manager: We love reading our reviews but this has made us properly chuckle today😁 on the day the biggest rain storm hit the country, you booked a grass standing pitch for 1 night on a working farm (complete with smelly animals), we told you where best to pitch up yet you enjoyed our site for at least 8 hours in the lovely sunshine, enjoying a walk with your dog until the evening when you decided to leave.....thanks for sharing your photos and taking the time to put in captions😂

Great site, easy to find, level pitch. Good clean facilities. Lovely owners. Quiet

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful setting on a farm with stunning views. Loved all the animals including cows, alpacas and Jessie the dog. It feels really rural yet it is 5 minutes walk up a small lane with no traffic to the edge of town, then another 5 minutes to the castle/pubs/restaurants - it is the best of both worlds! There are good amenities on the site and it's kept really clean. The owner, Celia, was lovely. No wifi but the 4G signal is really good. Would highly recommend this site.

Disliked: Nothing!

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Lovely site. Fantastic facilities, always clean when we went to use them. Good walks from the site and pubs for dinner. Friendly farm dogs mulling around which we loved. Didn't see anybody from the farm while we were there but received a welcome text the day before with instructions which is all we needed as we tend to keep ourselves to ourselves and go walking.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: This is a lovely Campsite situated with easy reach of some of North Wales best destinations. Celia works very hard to make all Guests feel welcome. How she manages the farm too is beyond me. Facilities are all modern and clean. Shops and pubs readily accessible in Rhuddlan a short walk down a quiet lane. I will be back. Its the perfect spot for me to base myself while visiting family and friends.

Local attractions

A stately home built in the 17th century, Bodrhyddan Hall (five minutes’ drive) is known for its gardens, which include manicured lawns and paths snaking through dense woodland. After a guided tour of the interior (which takes you past artworks, period furniture and an Egyptian mummy), you can stop for refreshments in the tea room. With its wide sandy beach and miniature railway, Rhyl (10 minutes) is a top destination for families. If the weather takes a turn for the worst, you can head to SC2 Rhyl, with an indoor waterpark, a ninja assault course and a soft-play area for younger kids, or to the SeaQuarium. Snow leopards, lemurs and brown bears are just some of the animals at Welsh Mountain Zoo (15 minutes), which spreads over 37 acres near Colwyn Bay. Other residents include exotic birds, reptiles and the furry and feathered guests at the Children’s Farm (rabbits, guinea pigs and ducks, among others). The park also has colourful gardens and woodland walks.
