  • Well-kept rural Denbighshire site raising money for charity
  • A 10-minute drive to the beaches of Rhyl and Prestatyn
  • Catering on site from Friday eve to Sunday morning
Want to book yourself a break and do some good for the world at the same time? What an excellent idea – and one that you can bring to reality when you stay at Pet Rescue Fundraising Camp Site, a five-acre site in the Denbighshire countryside just outside the village of Dyserth. Profits from stays go towards funding a pet rescue charity centre, so perhaps it’s no surprise that dogs are welcome to join you for a little holiday here. Doggy daycare is available for those who need it, and all dogs must be kept on a lead and supervised at all times (and you’ll need proof of up-to-date vaccinations for your pet to stay on site to ensure that all pets on site, including the site's rescue pets, stay protected from illness). This location makes a splendid spot for exploring north Wales – a cycle path runs past the entrance with a link to the North Wales Coastal Route, and there are plenty of walks around too. Rhyl and Prestatyn are both about 10 minutes’ drive away for beach times, and there are castles, gardens and all sorts of other things to fill days with. You’ll probably get a bit of a warm glow from knowing that you’re supporting a charitable cause by staying here – and that’s likely to grow even stronger when you see the facilities that have been provided. A washing-up area, toilets and showers are all included, and you can boost your break even further by hiring a firepit, grass heat shields (these are required for firepits or barbecues) or a windbreak. Logs can be purchased on site for the firepits. And that’s not all – there’s also a catering area that serves up cooked breakfasts, lunches, dinners and drinks (hot, cold and alcoholic) as well as running events like pizza nights and hotpot gatherings. The catering is open from Friday evening to Sunday morning breakfast.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Big and very level pitches.
Other campers were really friendly.

Disliked Portaloos only in site 2 that had no lighting. The shower had nowhere to put your clothes - no hooks or shelves and the water drained directly through the door.
An extortionate £4 to take your rubbish away was charged as there are no bins. We took our own rubbish away which was ok but as we have a dog, we were aware of having poo bags in our vehicle.
The main thing that would put me off from returning was the fact that the site was immediately next to a Sewage treatment plant which gave off a really unpleasant smell.

From the manager: The port-a-loos were added purely for night time use, as a curtesy to campers who don't wish to walk a few yard to the flushing toilets that are illuminated all night, it also states on the information sent with the confirmation site 2 is non electric and torches are required.
The reason for the refuse charge is simple and also stated on the information sheet £4 for 2 clear bags available at the check-in this cover the cost of the skip that we are charged £264.+vat per week, I am sure the options given are reasonable or would you rather the charity we raise fund for paid the bill?
I am afraid you are very wrong about the smell as it was the surrounding farmers field that had been sprayed (if you want food in the shops for your table the farmers have proactive jobs to do to provide the raw material to the veg shop, butchers, supermarkets)
The treatment works are full enclosed and there is no odour and once all the trees have grown you would not know it was there or don't you go to the toilet) PS If you had looked there is a bin for dog poo perhaps, you should have asked at reception were all your queries could have been answered and any worries laid aside, I never understand why campers only complain after they have left. We are sorry you had such a miserable time and we wish you well with other camp sites safe travel to you and yours. PS nothing wrong with the free showers & hot pot wash

Liked Fruendly service. We got to the food van and little late and the lady tooke an order from us anyway. This was very much appreciated. The whole campsite had a friendly atmosphere, and I feel it is very well located. The beach is only 10 minutes away and you also have nice looking pubs (we didn't go in them) up the road. In addition, supermarkets were around 10 minutes drive away too which is very convenient. The surrounding hills still give you the feeling of being out the way. I felt the amenities were well kept, showers were pretty much the perfect temperature, with lots of power and clean. Never had any issues with the bathrooms at all, however I can imagine that if I did, the people running the site would have sorted it straight away. This was our first time camping with our children (5 & 3) and well will definitely be returning at some point.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked To be honest there’s nothing much to like about this campsite. The view of the mountain. A stream that your not allowed in else you will be finned. Basic facilities, toilets, showers and post washing. There is a small not very well maintained park for smaller children.

Disliked I found the lady owner very rude and abrupt. The other staff I spoke to were more approachable, friendly and helpful. The owner had it in for one family in particular. This family was fantastic and great to have on the campsite. Keeping everyone’s children entertained and playing games with them all. My children couldn’t wait for the games to begin. £4 for a pedal bin bag to dispose of your rubbish. Never have I been to a campsite that charges to dispose of rubbish. Not a site to visit if your children have disabilities or complex needs.

From the manager: The steam is a wild life passage and has dangerous pockets of deep water with the drop that use to run a mill wheel under the small bridge acting like a washing machine there has been a tragedy there when a member public fell in and was found the next day so YES it's out of bounds. We have a lot of special needs children visit our site and there is never an issue. Our Facebook page can support all the issues raised. You are part of the same family that caused the issues
Just a quick note for the campers on site 1 from Thursday 14th - 17th Aug we apologise for the disturbance a family booking caused on the campsite with the foul language and noise. It’s very unfortunate and although asked the to keep the noise and the children down after 10pm quite time and off the play area it was like trying to hold back the tide. Toilet roll thrown all over and push down the toilets blocking them. Ran a-mock in the farmer barn of new baled hay (private farm). We have responded to all the complaints from other campers by blocking any further bookings they try to make (not that they will as I’m everything bad you can think of)leaving remarks were your a cu#t and said in front of a lady in the book office to say she was stunned would be mild) and they will be writing bad reviews that’s a cheek.
So I am very sorry for anyone offended and their camping trip disturbed by this family group.

Liked The view

Disliked Pretty much everything!
The lady who runs the site is very rude and challenging.

Two sets of toilets and she would lock one set around 0830 each morning to avoid cleaning it. Queues for the toilet in the morning.

Two showers available and a disabled one which she would lock, I asked if she could open it and she asked what my disability was. I showed her my access card and her partner came stomping over to eventually open it.
She was very rude and aggy to all our children. She does not like children at all and expects them to be seen and not heard!

We was late checking out and she told one of our kids who was using the toilet that we was all getting charged … not sure why she would even be discussing this with a 10 year old child.

There’s rope around each pitch to seperate … my son ran into it 2 times and cut his neck, I asked her if we could take the rope down and I was made to show her the evidence of what the rope did.

Website says 1130 in tents however after the first night she came and printed us off random flyers as she decided to change the time…. My family had all the campsites kids in the centre playing big group games till 2100 ish (around 30 kids- they absolutely loved it and we had parents the next day asking if we would do it again) and I believe she genuinely didn’t like it, so printed off these random leaflets dictating another time, I confronted her on this and she said there was complaints that kids was swinging on a swing and creaking at 2130. I told her if that’s all they’ve complained about then they shouldn’t be staying at a ‘child friendly’ camp site. She told me to shh. I told her she was very rude and it’s not a child friendly site at all.

Oh and there’s also rats by the wash up point.

From the manager: Never seen such a pack of untruths these reviews are from the same family that caused problems from the 14-17th Aug never again you have been banned. I posted the following on the 17th after they had departed PS my departure time stated 10.30 had been extended to 12 noon so tents can dry before packing. The info leaflet given out was for children to collect their sweet rewards and gave the times for the catering van & pop-up bar and quiet time as normal 10pm. Yes you get foul language on any campsite but I am talking about adults the can be hear all over the site as they are so loud their children may be use to it but other children aren't.

Liked Absolutely nothing we liked about this camp site!!

Disliked Marj and her staff . Treated me and my family like crap. Obnoxious cantankerous old lady who can’t stand kids , arrived on-site and was told to wait around with crying young kids and for her telling them to be quiet!!! while she conned money out of us/people for tiny white bin bag which was £4 for each one To dispose of our rubbish, first night kids played on a creaking 1980s swing which wasn’t really that sturdy, anyhow she drove past at 20past 10 demanding all the kids to be in bed!!!! , following morning . Drove to us about 9:30 to tell us there had been loads of complaints about us when there was no such story!!! We had most of the campers in campsite one playing games with us making new friends and not one single complaint everyone was thanking us for entertaining there kids!!! Later on that day we was also told we wasn’t allowed in the stream 25 degree heat, got water guns out for us all to have water fight, was also told and shouted at for using water as they had a bill to pay, (tiny water pistols ) everything we tried to do we got shouted at, she came over wouldn’t let us have a word in edge ways said we had to follow rules but this wasn’t stated on the site , also stated no noise after 11:30 but was making us all go to bed at 10:20!!! . Following morning same again even tho kids was in bed for 10 following night!!! Then we decided to go out as couldn’t stay in there any longer came back and she was constantly on the kids don’t go in there don’t do this don’t do that, and it was just kids exploring never met a more ruder person in my life!!! Nothing family friendly about this place at all!!! Telling fully grown adults to shut up and be quiet while she spoke to us , wouldn’t serve any of my kids anything from the tuck van said nooo very stern where closed even though she was serving others!!!! this place needs shutting down there’s absolutely nothing on it for anyone other than 4 cranky swings that ain’t safe!!! There’s rope tied everywhere and my nephew ran into them 3 times resulting in rope burns round his neck he’s only 4!!! She said I was lying until I showed her the state of his neck!!! This woman is a horrible nasty old women who made us as a family feel like we was walking on egg shells!!!! We always tidied up and made sure the kids was around us at all times but even then she still had something to moan about, even calling one of our kids who was walking past minding his own Business coming back from toilet an odd ball, wouldn’t mind he’s got disabilities !!!! Wouldn’t open the disabled showers for us as well looked at us as though we was lying until we yet again proved her wrong!!!!!! She’s horrible and I suggest everyone stays clear of this site if you have kids! It’s more for 70+ age… STAY CLEAR GUYS

From the manager: The skip hire is over £265+vat a week, we are recouping this cost by charging per issue bag £4 as we raise funds for pet rescue it seem fair not to take this from the funds there are other option available to all campers. As for this review it's from the same family. The disabled shower was opened when asked but then they all pilled in children and all because they didn't want to wait for the showers they had used since arriving: The food van closed after breakfast 8.30 -10.30 the children came over when the cleaning was under way after 11 so we could help them but we did give them milk as theirs's was frozen given not charged for. A 3 part family so the same reply as I stated earlier.

Liked Fantastic place the staff are all lovely nice quiet side after 1030pm
The owner doses a grand job both on site and with the rescue centre for animals and it's nice to know that the funds go towards housing rescue dogs and its only a short drive from prestatyn I did extend my staying a couple of times and this was very easy to do on site at the office

Disliked Having to come home

Local attractions

Time to hit the coast? Take your bucket and spade to the sandy beaches of Rhyl or Prestatyn (both 10 minutes’ drive), get over to Llandudno (half an hour) to walk on the pier and ride the Great Orme tramway, or continue to Conwy (half an hour) to explore the castle. For rural walks you can stay local for the 15-minute stroll to Dyserth Falls, climb the peaks of the neighbouring Clwydian Range or dip your toes into Snowdonia National Park (40 minutes’ drive). The pretty pathways of Bodnant Garden (half an hour) are well worth a wander too. This being Wales, you’re never far from a castle – the turrets of Rhuddlan Castle (five minutes) are the closest, but TV fans may like to drop in at Gwrych Castle (15 minutes) to see where I’m A Celeb was staged.
