Lodge (no pets, twin)

Liked: Clean and tidy site. Cabins were very well presented, very clean and tidy. Toilet, shower and wash rooms were also clean and tidy. Beautiful scenery, quiet and very relaxing.

Disliked: We chose this site to go fishing on the Lake, as it was advertised. It was not a Lake but a small pond.

The Mount lodge (no pets)

Liked: Stayed for one night with my partner and 5 year old son it was fabulous, fantastic site with a very friendly and helpful owner. Lovely bacon and egg bap for breakfast. The site it's self is lovely very peaceful. We will be definitely coming again next year for a weekend and would most definitely recommend. We can't wait to come again in the summer and sit outside in the lovely garden with a beer.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch (adults only)

Liked: Travelling with a couple of friends on motorbikes and we chose this as our base for a long weekend. Very clean and tidy site with a lovely atmosphere in a peaceful location. Ideal base camp for trips into Wales. Was quite busy when we were there so they put in some additional portaloos to ensure there were adequate facilities. On site bar/cafe is excellent and they do offer breakfast providing you order the night before (although this wasn’t available on the Monday when we departed). Just as a point to note, they don’t normally offer meals in the evening (apart from some evening events; it was Pizza Night when we arrived which was really good). However, if you want an evening meal and are prepared for a short(ish) walk or drive there are some good local pubs. There is WiFi in the cafe/bar and we all had a phone signal.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike.

Camping pod (no pets, two person)

Liked: The site owner was beyond accommodating and so welcoming! We had an issue with our pitch due to other campers and Julie offered us a free night, which we were so thankful for. Not only that, she offered an upgrade too! Couldn’t be more thankful. It’s a wonderful campsite, clean and well kept. The clamping pods/lodges were clean, with an abundance of comfort in them. Good facilities available, showers were really clean! Lovely little place, will be visiting again!

Disliked: I can’t actually say there was anything we didn’t like. Overall, it’s a good, clean, friendly site with good offers of accommodation.

Local attractions

Lace up your walking boots: with Brook House Farm midway between Welshpool and Shropshire’s county town Shrewsbury, it’s a shrewd place to stop to see the Shropshire Hills and Mid Wales on an active family hol. Shropshire has over 3500 miles’ worth of right of way paths for longer distance hikes and shorter strolls; the 210-mile Severn Way passes along nearby for taking a hike along it on a day trip or stopping off at Brook Farm if you’re attempting it all. The Offa’s Dyke Path can be accessed from here too: the very helpful Brook House Farm owners can arrange a shuttle bus for you to join the trail if you let them know in advance. For less tired feet, a plethora of outdoor pursuits within easy reach of the farm includes horse riding, mountain biking and golf; paragliding and lessons are available at nearby Rodney’s Pillar and the Long Mynd. Land some slippery characters by casting off on the River Severn: Brook House’s own stretch of river yields barbel into double figures, but there are shoals of other nearby spots to land salmon, trout and grayling. There are some commercial fisheries within 20 minutes’ drive to thrash things out at too, such as Weston Pool near Oswestry. Once you’ve cleaned off your catch and soothed your sore feet, jump into the car for some historical highlights: the medieval fortress Powis Castle with its famous French and Italian garden; Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum Trust; the Red Castle and Grotto Hill of the 18th-century Hawkstone Historic Park & Follies, and the town of Shrewsbury, with over 600 listed buildings.
