Free spirits (or those who need to free their spirits a little…), this is the place for you. As much as possible, guests are given free range at Cwmffrwd Farm Campsite, where pitches are mown into the swaying meadow grasses and surrounded by gorgeous wildflowers. This spectacularly scenic and peaceful Powys site is part of a 22-acre property within the Brecon Beacons National Park, and it’s a place where you really can reconnect with nature. Preserving a sense of wilderness is a key policy for the owners, who keep things on site simple and traditional to protect the natural biodiversity. So, that means no wifi on site but plenty of entertainment in the form of an outdoor library full of books and charts to help you identify the mini beasts you might find while rummaging in the long grass or the birds you spot in the trees. A stream runs down from the mountain through the site, and you’re welcome to have a paddle in there to cool your feet off in the traditional way after the day’s activities. To keep everyone safe on site and minimise the impact on the environment there’s a no-vehicle policy around the pitches – you’ll be asked to park at the field entrance, where wheelbarrows are provided to help you move your kit to your pitch. Vehicles with roof boxes or needing extra large pitches can get access via their own little track to the bottom of the meadows. Facilities on site include three compost loos as well as ‘The Byre’ – a washroom with flushing toilet, shower, washing-up area, freezer and kettle. Talgarth and Crickhowell are both 15 minutes’ drive away for shops and places to eat/drink/pick up takeaways.

Upper Meadow non-electric grass tent pitch (maximum 4-berth)

Liked: Greeted with warm welcome and everything very clear about site. Pitch itself was perfect for 4 person tent with views which inspired. A beautiful, relaxed and environmentally aware site which is confirmation you don’t need to provide a small village with camping just compost toilets, calm and leave as much natural beauty to complete the stay. Many thanks it was brilliant

From the manager: Thank you so much for the review Simon! It was really lovely to meet you and we hope to see you again in the future 😊

Buzzard bell tent (three person)

Liked: Stylish, comfortable bell tent with a stove and ample firewood for our two nights. Beautiful site in the heart of the Brecon Dark Sky Reserve and backing onto the famous Dragon’s Back ridge. Breathtaking views in every direction. Pridie couldn’t do enough for us.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you so much for your kind review Fenella, we hope to see you both again to chat about the stars!

Lower Meadow non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Peaceful and spacious site, easy to find and helpful owner who gave me a great tip on where to watch the sunset. Absolute bargain for the price I paid will definitely be back.

Disliked: Only one shower and washing up area, when the site is busier I can see that becoming quite congested. But again for a tenner a night I couldn't complain at all.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Lovely to meet you Katie, hope to see you again!

Lower Meadow non-electric grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything! 🙂 Absolutely awesome place! Priya, our host, is a brilliant, very nice and very helpful person. Kids had lots of fun all the time, plenty of space to run around. Pitches are located far apart so you have your privacy. Plenty of space and places to walk you four legged friends. Short distance to the shops nearby and views are just breathtaking! It is a camping place in its definition so not for people who are used to facilities full of showers, WiFi and what not. There are compost toilets, one normal toilet and one shower. There is hardly any signal at all for mobile phones. We will definitely come over again.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Aw, thanks so much for such a lovely review! It was totally brilliant to meet you all and fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves in the meadows! Hopefully see you again soon!

Ladybird bell tent (four person)

Liked: Thoroughly enjoyed! The bell tent was set up with exactly what was described with a few little personal extras like hot water bottles and blankets which we were very grateful for! The scenery is magnificent and if we had more time, there is fantastic walks around. The weather didn't exactly play ball the whole time, but the tent coped just fine and we had a really fun time. We went to the Big Pit coal mine and would thoroughly recommend this! It doesn't cost anything apart from £5 parking and is very interesting !
