Liked: Friendly host and wonderful quiet campsite with stunning views. Easy 4 mile walk into Hay-on-Wye. Showers are 50p but that gets you plenty of time and hot water!
Disliked: Facilities are a little outdated but do the job. Campsite on uneven/slopes ground so keep that in mind when preparing for your stay.

Non-electric grass pitch
Liked: A no-nonsense site (all waste to be taken home, but dog-mess containers dotted around!) - so please do not book in if you are expecting anything other than: freedom to pitch (it was not crowded when I was there), a slope which means everybody stands a chance of seeing the stunning views across the valley), and yes, amazing views and a massive range of imposing hills to walk and explore behind you. There are water taps, washing facilities, toilets and showers (50p), porta-loos for those who want to be as far away from others - i.e. they are positioned half way to the shower/toilet block. While the site is tucked away, the next Co-op is c 4miles in Talgarth or c5miles the other way in Hay-on-Wye - both within easy cycle range and on the flat, so bring a bike and leave the car on the hard-core stand. The site accommodates D of E groups. They are in their own part of the site, and given that around where I live kids have stopped playing outside and stay indoors on their gadgets, there cannot be enough places that ensure young people get to engage with the countryside and hopefully learn to love and respect it. One more thing: if you plan to go there by car, practise reversing your car. It is part of knowing how to drive, and the narrow lanes require you to be able to reverse at times.
Disliked: There was nothing to dislike.

Liked: A back to basics, essential only campsite with lots of space and scenic views. On arrival we were given a warm welcome and overview of the site - it is run as a Duke of Edinburgh campsite and the minimalist approach is in keeping with the request of schools/colleges. The shower block was decent, 50p for 7 minutes of hot water. Plenty of sinks to use to wash up, but keep in mind it is with cold water. There was portaloo toilets in the field or a toilet/shower block at the top of the site. For £12 per night, no complaints at all.

Liked: Good views in a sheltered location, only a short drive to the Hay Festival. Lovely hot showers, which are plenty long enough, and we could have had a firepit if it hadn't rained. Large open farm shed used for D of E guys, great for a sheltered breakfast spot on some picnic tables after they'd left in the morning. A very quiet spot on a busy weekend. Good value!
Disliked: Make sure you talk to the site owner first to ensure you park uphill to allow an easy descent upon leaving a wet field! Remember 50p for the shower.

Liked: Lovely quiet, out the way site. Great for wild camping for walkers and kids to run around. Basic facilities but functional.
Disliked: This camp site is not suitable for twin axel caravans or caravans. All fields are on a slope only place to pitch up is on a very rough stoned area. Any amount of rain makes the fields very boggy which we found out the hard way. The farmer told us about the rain and not to go on fields after rain. He has a tractor to pull people out but reluctant to do so. We have a twin axel caravan and trying to get on to the rough stoned area went 2 ft on to the grass where we immediately bogged down, both van and caravan. We were completely stuck We asked for help but we're inform the farmer was to busy to help and he had told us not to go on the grass ! He eventually lent us a spade to try and dig ourselves out. This did not work. We had to ring the AA and they got a local company to pull us out on to the rough stoned pitch.£100. Lighter we got out. Cars and camper vans also found driving on the grass difficult. I would not recommend staying here unless you are camping or have a smaller campervan.
