Glangwdi Glamping: Bluebell tent with its own seating area and kitchenette.

General

  • Small family-friendly site in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons
  • Just off the main A470 road, a five-minute drive from Brecon town
  • Views out across the mountains; pygmy goats to meet at the park

Get to Glangwdi Glamping for bell tent breaks at a fantastic family-run site in a first-rate spot for bumbling around the Brecon Beacons National Park. Days of hiking, alpaca walking, mountain biking, horse riding, canoeing, gorge walking – and pretty much any other activity you're up for in this part of Powys – are a doddle to organise while on a hol here.

Taking on pursuits of a more leisurely sort is also an option at this scenic site, either by simply sitting down and admiring the views out across south Wales’ most sizeable mountain range or by wandering over to meet the pygmy goats, chickens and ducks at the farm.

Barbecues with a backdrop of the Brecon Beacons are of course a brilliant way to arrange dins on site (firepits are available and there’s wood to buy). But if you're not in the mood to cook, let someone else do the work by ordering meals at one of the pubs, coffee shops or restaurants up the road in Brecon (five minutes’ drive). You could also wangle a takeaway delivered straight to your pitch...

Work up an appetite for eats with a walk around the Brecon Beacons, whether a gentle hike in the woods or while getting stuck into scaling Pen-y-Fan (20 minutes), the area’s highest peak.

Please note

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

Bookings must not be for more than 14 consecutive nights.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality flashlight with them as parts of the park are unlit.

After an awesome half term stay in May 2021 we booked to come back as soon as booking opened for the 2022 season. This also meant we managed to nab the tent with the wood-fired hot tub which was new this year and was a brilliant addition! Like last year, the children (8 and 10) spent a lot of time cuddling baby goats. They also loved being able to collect fresh eggs from the chickens (another new addition). We'll undoubtedly be back again!

Great facilities and the owners are amazing, so approachable and accomodating made you feel like an extension of the family. We will be back time and time again for our adult get away from the kids. The back drop of the Brecon beacons is amazing, the campsite is quite and clean and the walk to the waterfalls in the little woods behind is perfect if you want to cool down on a warm summer's day. Then light your own roaring fire pit to stay warm in the vending with a nice cold beer or warm cup of hot chocolate.

The camspite was small, total of 6 tents or so which was really nice. The owner Jo was super helpful all day and night and nothing was too much of a bother.
The campsite was really clean and tidy which was nice and the beds in the yurt were comfy.
The facilities are really good, great shower and the camping stove, cutlery and benches with the tent are ideal

A really lovely campsite, quiet, well decorated with the really friendly owners who were always available and went the extra mile for you. The area itself was beautiful with Pen Y Fan right around the corner. The tents had everything you needed and were spacious and comfortable. Outside the kitchen area was well stocked and there were plenty of seats for you to use. We all enjoyed our trip immensely. It was an incredible price too.

    Disliked:

My only 'dislike' was that we had to use multiple plastic bottles for water. It did feel really wasteful so if there was a way of making the tap water suitable for drinking, I think this place would be perfect.

From the manager...

Hi Amy,

Thank you for your review.
The water bottles are temporary. Once we have brought electric across to the sink area, we will be fitting a water filter.

Local attractions

Horse-riding sorts might like to saddle up at the nearby stables (10 minutes' drive), while mountain bikers can satiate their need for speed on the top trails at BikePark Wales (half an hour).

And the outdoorsy antics don't end there… Brecon is something of a hub for such things with activity centres around town for rafting, canoeing, high ropes courses and gorge scrambling adventures. All sound too exhausting? Take a more leisurely ride on the Brecon Mountain Railway (half an hour) before heading home via the Penderyn whisky distillery (30 minutes) and sampling some locally made tipples.

Break out of the Beacons for trips to some of the area's other attractions: Llandovery Castle is half an hour away, as is the literary town of Hay-on-Wye, a settlement lined with bookshops. A little further north, but well worth a trip are the lakes of the Elan Valley and the Red Kite Feeding Station in Rhayader; both are around 50 minutes drive.

Must see

  • Brecon Mountain Railway (16.1 kilometres)
