Gather the family (or a few friends) and head to Rydlan, a two-bedroom cabin in the countryside outside the seaside resort of Borth (five minutes’ drive), in Ceredigion, West Wales. The property sits next to a working farm, and you might well open the curtains in the morning to spot cattle grazing lazily in the adjacent field, not to mention distant sea views.
Bright and light-filled, Rydlan has a double room and bunk room, a bathroom (with a shower) and a well-equipped kitchen area with an induction hob, microwave oven and sink, plus assorted pans and utensils to whip up family means that you can then devour in the dining area or alfresco. The outdoor area includes a paved patio with ample seating (overlooking the neighbouring hillsides) and a hot tub – just the spot to admire spectacular sunsets or the star-speckled night sky.
Days can be spent at the beach on Borth (where kids can splash around in the shallow waters) or at the Ynyslas National Nature Reserve, a somewhat wilder landscape of sand dunes at the mouth of the River Dyfi (and a top spot for birdwatchers). The Welsh Coastal Path runs along Bae Ceredigion and can be accessed (on foot in about 20 minutes).

Route directions
From Aberystwyth, take the turning for Borth at Rhydypennau. After Llandre, take the right turn for Dolybont (under the railway bridge). Drive through Dolybont over the humpback bridge, uphill and turn left at the blue Dolybont sign. Follow the road to the first farm. Once you have reached Brynllys Farm, Rydlan is located 180 degrees to your direction of travel adjacent to a big bale yard.
