  • Peaceful adults-only Ceredigion site in the Melindwr Valley
  • A 15-minute drive to Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge Falls
  • Easy access from the A44; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Ceredigion’s coast and countryside alike will be yours for the taking when you stay at Aber Camping – this adults-only site welcomes guests aged 16 and over to a peaceful spot in the Melindwr Valley, about 15 minutes’ drive from Aberystwyth. Gorgeous rural life is all around you here – there are sheep and cows in the neighbouring fields, and you’ll often spot red kites, buzzards and other birds of prey flying overhead or landing nearby (wildlife photographers, don’t forget your kit…) Unobscured views of the surroundings also mean that this site is a great place to sit and simply take in the landscape on a relaxed break. And if you need a little more activity? Well, there’s plenty of that around too, whether you stay inland for hikes and mountain bike trails or head west to the coast for seaside walks, surfing, swimming and watersports (and perhaps the chance to spot the porpoises and dolphins that live in Cardigan Bay). This is an excellent location for 4x4 and off-road adventures. There are many trails nearby and guided tours are available at an additional cost. Ask ahead and you may be able to organise lifts to and from the train/bus station, or to local attractions – most handy for folk travelling without a car. Action-packed break or chillout time on the cards – either way, you’ll no doubt appreciate the effort that’s gone into setting up the facilities on site. Guests will have access to modern, clean toilets and showers (with ladies’ and gents’ sections), an enclosed washing-up area and a small shop for essentials. For more extensive stocking up there are plenty of shops in Aberystwyth, as well as places to eat and drink. Your closest pub, however, is a mere 10-minute walk away – a welcome site at the end of a long and active day…

Top Field non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Surrounding countryside

Disliked: Lack of attention to site. Disappointed. For the price we paid for a small pitch with no electric - we would have liked to have seen a better quality of area. Just a feeling of lack of care. No light in toilet facility. Nice building which we initially thought was toilets showers etc but turned out to be site office! Run down shack for toilets. I wouldn’t of paid more than £10 per night for what was offered Only plus for us was the surrounding countryside which was very picturesque

From the manager: Hi Catherine. Thanks for your review. I do wish people would let me know if there’s an issue with the site. I found out from another camper that the electrics had blown in the purpose built shower and toilet block. We had had horrendous rain previously and found that it had tripped our solar array and subsequently tripped the camp site electrics. So sincere apologies about no lights in there. Obviously we have lights inside but with the electrics tripped they were not operating. Now rectified. The site is purposefully cut as it is to give guests a real countryside camping feel and to encourage wildlife. The pitch you were on is 35ft by 26ft, and a special non electric pitch as requested which is the closest one to the toilet block. If you wanted electric then we could have put you on a closer pitch. The larger “nice building” is actually a craft cabin for workshops and a small part of it is for the camp shop and office. If you would like a FREE night then I would be delighted to see you both again. Hopefully we can do better for you. Kind regards Andre

Top Field non-electric grass and earth tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Nice quiet campsite in a great location with lovely views and some nice walks nearby The owner Andreas was very friendly and helpful

Disliked: Nothing I particularly disliked I was a solo traveler and was charged the same as a couple- not complaining as most campsites do that but I do think a discount for solo campers would be nice

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Hi Richard. Glad you enjoyed staying here even though the rain was intense and everything was muddy in the toilet block. We cannot offer a discount for a solo traveler as a pitch is a pitch. Whether 1 person or 4 it’s a spacious pitch and allocated for 2 people. If more than 2 are on one pitch then there is an additional charge, due to more toilet paper, hand soap, water, hand towels etc being used. The facilities we offer are quite extensive with hot electric showers, hot running water in the toilet area and the washing up cabin. The washing machine is there for everyone to use and so is the freezer block freezing facility on hand for all campers. Fresh running water off our mains is available at all outlets on site. There is also the rental of fire pits available (which you took advantage of for only £2.50 a night) when folks bring their own wood and our little shop with milk, eggs, essentials, drinks, toothbrushes etc are available to all campers. We are glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet here. Kind regards Andre

Liked: Aber campsite is peaceful and located a beautiful area. 😍 It is always a bonus when campsites are adults only with no dogs. Hiking and biking around the area. Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest Visitor Centre close by. Flat and spacious pitches which are not close to each other. Clean facilities.

Disliked: The only slight annoyance was lights are sensor controlled in the toilet they will go off even if sitting on the toilet or you are washing your hands.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. I fully agree with you about the sensor lights. Unfortunately there is no adjustment on them to make them stay on longer. We looking at new lights for the next season which can be adjusted. Glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet here. Hopefully see you again. Andre

Top Field electric optional grass and earth tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Plenty of space, clean facilities and friendly and helpful owners. Nice pub and good food within walking distance. Larger motorhomes may struggle with the lane leading to the site.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So glad you had a relaxing stay with us. You are right about the lanes. Now the hedges have been cut it makes it a bit easier. Large motorhomes will find it tight but campervans and smaller (up to 5m) motorhomes are fine. Was a pleasure talking with you. See you again sometime. Thanks Andre

Local attractions

You’re bound to end up in Aberystwyth (15 minutes’ drive) sooner or later – it’s not just a place for practicalities but also a great spot for a day out, spending time on the beach, trying out various watersports, riding the cliff railway up to the camera obscura or visiting the National Library of Wales and the ruins of Aberystwyth Castle. Aberystwyth is also the starting point for the Vale of Rheidol Railway, which provides steam-powered trips to the stunning Devil’s Bridge Falls. If you’d rather head straight to the falls, it’s about a 15-minute drive. While you’re inland, stop by at the red kite feeding station at Bwlch Nant yr Arian Forest (five minutes) or head underground at Silver Mountain Experience (10 minutes). And then? Maybe back to the coast for a day at Borth (20 minutes), further inland to the hikes of Elan Valley (45 minutes) or north for an educational day at the Centre for Alternative Technology (45 minutes)?
