Electric grass pitch

Liked: £12 for hookup and hot showers!! What’s not to like. Quiet site with only a handful of touring pitches (the rest are static caravans) and a couple of minutes walk to a long beach. Large toilet and shower block and laundry/washing up room and that’s about it. Actual touring pitches are overlooked by the caravans but for £12 you can’t go wrong. WiFi advertised but didn’t try it. Tricky to get hold of the site as it’s run by Parkdean so you have to go through what I assume is a central switchboard. I only tried to let them know I was going to be late but just left a message l. They call you after booking with a pitch number and toilet code so it’s not an issue

Local attractions

It’s not just the Moray Firth coast that has stunning scenery, so point your compass inland too. Characterful Elgin (15 minutes’ drive) has a number of distilleries, including Glen Moray Distillery (15 minutes), Gordon & MacPhail South Street (20 minutes) and Glen Elgin Distillery (25 minutes), most of which have open days for the public and whisky trails – and of course, there are the typical Scottish pubs, shops and restaurants to duck into too. If you’re here to get up close and personal with the waves, there’s a surf school at the east beach in Lossiemouth (20 minutes). With another beach on the other side of the harbour and sand dunes, get acquainted with the lush sand too. Golfers who like to tee off with terrific scenery can also get sea views from the holes on the Moray Golf Club, a links course alongside the west beach. RAF planes also swoop low over the course, adding an extra touch to the atmosphere.
