  • Family-friendly glamping pods near Kilmarnock in rural Ayrshire
  • Half an hour’s drive to the Arran ferry; Culzean Castle 50 minutes
  • Private hot tubs, outdoor TVs; communal firepit and barbecue
Well, here’s something rather special. Cleverly designed glamping pods that sleep up to four – and each one with its own private hot tub and outside space with far-reaching rural views. Just the ticket for family and friends looking to spend some happy holiday times near Kilmarnock in Ayrshire. All named after trees and individually styled, the pods have comfy sofas that do double duty as beds, one king-size bed and snug dining areas. Bespoke touches include artisan basins in the shower rooms and top-quality kitchens, which come with all you need to conjure up simple meals – or if the weather is playing nice, maybe rustle up a barbecue on the communal firepit? And you can be as solitary or sociable as you want. Meet up with other guests around the fire – or simply stick to your private retreat and make the most of that hot tub (with an outdoor TV, no less). Should you need to stock up, Stewarton (five minutes’ drive) has all you need, from supermarkets to bakeries. Fancy a night off cooking? The town has pubs, cafés and takeaways too.

Local attractions

Get out and about in cultured Ayrshire: fans of Scottish poetry can learn about the life of legendary Rabbie Burns at the Robert Burns Birthplace Museum (35 minutes’ drive), and lovers of industrial history can admire the functioning waterwheel and former mill at The Museum of Ayrshire Country Life and Costume (25 minutes). Ayrshire is castle country too. There’s easily to do – from visiting the armoury to admiring the Chippendale furniture and wandering the Walled Garden – at clifftop Culzean Castle and Country Park (50 minutes) to warrant a day trip, while Kelburn Castle and Estate (40 minutes) has eye-catching graffiti on its facade and exotic gardens with ancient trees. If you’re taking the kids, both venues have themed play areas and lots of room to run around on way-marked paths. The Isle of Arran (take the ferry from Adrossan, half an hour) is nicknamed ‘Scotland in miniature’, and it’s easy to see why. Brooding Brodick Castle overlooks a sweeping bay, and there are mountains, hills and glens to explore on foot or by bike – and if you’re into climbing, Goatfell is the highest peak on the island.

Camping pod

Liked: The pod was really lovely, it had everything you could have wanted. The bed could be more comfy but that was personal preference. The hot tub was great for relaxing, but felt it could have been more private. The communal area was well equipped although we didn’t make use of it. The local town was great for food and drink and was easy to get to via a local taxi. Will definitely be back with family to make use of all the facilities next time. Thank you for a relaxing weekend.
