Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: The Farmer met us as we arrived, and was super friendly- he explained the best place to pitch for a lovely sun rise. The first morning, the farmer brought us 4 complementary freshly laid eggs for breakfast! We went out for the day and came back to another box of fresh eggs! The toilets and showers are very clean, as was the whole site. There was a firepit, table, and log chairs for each pitch and benches dotted around to chill under the trees.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike!

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Location onsite is great. Good facilities including the compost toilet, showers and wash station. It’s nice to have a peaceful campsite with a more natural feel. Mike keeps the site really tidy and clean in the toilets/showers. No concerns about that. Nice walk to the local pub up the lane about a mile.

Non-electric grass tent or campervan pitch

Liked: Me and my family really enjoyed our stay. First time camping as a family in out new tent and not the last. This was a trial camp etc but it was just what we wanted, very relaxed in a beautiful spot with a short 20minute drive to Bristol/Bath. Star gazing, camp fires, marshmellows, rain, wind, no electric.....proper camping lol. Will definitely be returning for a longer stay! Thanks to Mike for putting on little activities for the kids. See you soon!

Local attractions

Looking over the Mendip Hills, it would seem that these limestone beauties would be an apt place to start your explorations from Walnut Tree Farm… it’s easy to see why this is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as prehistoric Cheddar Gorge, half an hour’s drive from the site, there’s a Victorian fort at Brean Down (about an hour’s drive west), and an Iron Age hill fort (about 40 minutes south) at Brent Knoll, to hook every kind of history buff. While you’re doing the historical rounds, go Gothic at the National Trust’s Tyntesfield, a turreted and stone-carved mansion 10 miles north of Walnut Tree Farm. You'll be able to smell a good tale here – the house was once owned by one of the country’s wealthiest commoners, who managed to get himself rather stinking rich thanks to fertiliser. (It’ll all make scents if you pay a visit and nose out more.) Step onto the Monarch’s Way footpath to follow the escape route from the Battle of Worcester said to have been taken by the future Charles II back in 1651; running from Worcester to Bristol and down to Brighton, the path is clearly marked so ensures a royally safe experience (perhaps unlike that of Charles II). From the Monarch’s Way south of Bristol, you’ll wind up in Wells (15 miles from Walnut Tree Farm), where a cracking cathedral awaits, along with the 800-year-old Bishop’s Palace and its medieval features including a drawbridge and well-kept gardens for exploring.
