  • Small countryside site overlooking 27 acres of National Trust land
  • A 20-minute drive from Stonehenge and 25 minutes from Salisbury
  • Two pubs within walking distance and barbecues permitted on site
Track down Stonehenge and Salisbury or leap over the country stile onto the 27 acres of National Trust land alongside Honeysuckle Homestead… this remote countryside site is well equipped for a Wiltshire break and pretty splendid location-wise. The location is within the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, and Wiltshire’s your oyster, really: the iconic Stonehenge stone circle is 20 minutes’ drive away and Salisbury Cathedral about 25 minutes. If country pubs are your first calling, there are two of those nearby too (at a 20-minute or a 45-minute walk respectively). Well-fed and watered, you might be itching to get out on one of the many scenic walks in the surrounding countryside. One top pick is the Dinton Park Trail in the National Trust land that the site overlooks. You’ll pass by orchards, farmland, parkland, woodland and a Neo-Grecian house, as well as follow part of the Monarch’s Way. This 625-mile trail was King Charles II’s escape route after he was defeated in the Civil Wars, although you’ll be able to take it on at a much more leisurely pace. Honeysuckle Homestead has a sweet set up all around. It’s well equipped with heated toilets and showers, wifi over the site and a washing-up area (just in case you fancy taking advantage of the fact that barbecues are allowed). There’s a shop in Fovant village, 45 minutes’ walk away, for all your basic bits and pieces.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Greeted on arrival and shown to my pitch, the facilities and where I could walk my dog. My pitch did have a little tree for shade which was cute and I liked that.
The field next to the site was great to let my dog have a run around in the evening (once it had cooled off)

Disliked Right on a busy train line, I know this is not the owners fault but it would have been nice to have known before arriving as my dog can be sensitive to traffic noise, thankfully she was ok this time but did wake up throughout the night when trains went past. There is nothing in the sites description about it.

The facilities are there were dirty, not well kept and it all could do with a refresh honestly. There is black mould in the wet rooms, dirty mop buckets around and the wash sink was scaled/dirty and not up to standard. The shower had a leak and sprayed everywhere!! if I’d not already paid £26 for the night I would have left.

I have been to sites and paid half the amount I did for one night and the facilities have been 100times better in my opinion.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Friendly owners, shown to pitch and facilities.
Lovely walks straight from site all on national trust. Close to pub and shop.
Free WiFi which was pretty good.

Disliked Only 1 shower and 1 female and 1 male toilet.
Does looking they are building more. Abit of waiting especially first thing in the morning.
Site right on train track. They go past regularly but only during the day.

Level pitches on a grassed site, with decent facilities.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Small site, next to lovely fields. Good shower/wet room.

Disliked The site is adjacent to a railway cutting, with trains passing throughout the day and late at night. One gets used to the noise.

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked A very nice quiet site, yes there is a railway line but the trains are about every hour and does not disturb the quiet there.

Lots of space for walking the dog if you need that

Clean toilets and shower rooms, and there is a washing machine if needed you just need to donate some money to contribute to maintaining it.

This is our 3rd time there and will go again.

Lovely setting.…

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Lovely setting.

Disliked Myself and my husband arrived a few hours before our two families. We had all booked and paid deposit. The owner explained everything well and showed us where our families could pitch when they arrived. Our two families arrived together and I waved them on through. Within minutes the owner walked up to us very unhappy complaining about a tent we had put up for one of our families and that they didn’t call at reception. We apologised explained about the tent but I am afraid she would not be appeased. The discussion became heated the children all watched and were quite confused as were we. The whole experience was very upsetting and we decided to leave immediately. So we took our tent down put the food we had cooked for the families in our cars and found another campsite. I would not go back to this campsite again. If you do DO NOT fail to call at reception

It's a lovely site,a basic but a good place to explore the area from

Electric hardstanding pitch

Liked Gorgeous veiw, huge pitches. Peaceful.

Disliked Not a dislike really but one toilet per sex and one shower, though the shower room was a good size with a toilet and sink, obviously many people wanting tonuse it at the same time meant waiting or going without.

Quiet, small site, views, great facilities. Lovely owner/host…

Local attractions

So you’ve visited medieval Salisbury (25 minutes’ drive), gazed at the Magna Carta in Salisbury Cathedral and (hopefully) defeated an escape room, but what about Old Sarum (25 minutes)? The ruins are where Salisbury’s first settlers lived and nowadays, visitors can climb up the ramparts, see where the original cathedral once stood and admire the Iron Age hillfort too. Wilton (10 minutes) was the ancient capital of Wessex and well worth a stop for walks along the Wylye river, the markets and Wilton House (15 minutes). Historical sites don’t end just there, though, as further out, there are the 14th-century ruins of Old Wardour Castle (20 minutes) and grand Kingston Lacy (40 minutes), where there are Japanese gardens, play areas, art and antiquities and garden tours. If it’s a safari day you’re after, that’s not as unthinkable as you’d expect in the Wiltshire countryside, because Longleat (half an hour) has a self-driving safari park with a lion and monkey enclosure. You’re more likely to see New Forest ponies roaming around New Forest National Park (40 minutes). Canoeing, cycling, hiking, hiking – all sorts, really – can be tracked down here, but if it’s the coast you’re really after, Bournemouth (55 minutes), Poole (55 minutes) and Lymington (an hour and 10 minutes) are further on.
