This site was lovely level site with plenty of space and easy to get to from the M5. The facilities were really clean and the showers warm and powerful. The owner and his family were very friendly and even put up with my son joining in with a football game.
There is an activity centre behind the campsite offering lots of outdoor sports and games including a dry ski slope and the hedgerows around the site were filled with birds and wildlife. We had a really nice peaceful stay here.

    Disliked:

There was nothing I disliked if I was pushed I might say it was a bit pricey.

Leaving the car in the car park and not next to tent pitch.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We normally allow cars to park next to the tent pitch but, as I'm sure you are aware, we had experienced some torrential rain during your stay and needed to protect the grass for future campers. As soon as the grass dried out campers were once again allowed to park next to their pitch.

No where to dispose of waste so I took it home but there is likely to be waste left by some future people if no bin provided

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.

We ask owners to take their own rubbish away and supply bin bags where requested. This is to encourage guests to be more thoughtful with rubbish and recycling and is quite a common policy now with many campsites.

Ground was good, nice area, shower and toilets were ok but some improvements are needed. Quiet at night with a great view of the stars.

    Disliked:

Check in confusion; nothing to clearly separate from the activity camp. Found the place easy enough but as it was not clear where to check in, we ended up finding the activity centre reception around the corner instead, who then sent us up the hill to find that it wasn't connected to the site we needed and had found in the first place. Turns out we should have gone through a gate next door that only has a sign indicating private property (or something to that effect).

Shower and toilet block is good, but most locks were not working which should be an easy fix, and the lights did not work. Shower was ok- temperature and pressure varied a lot which we expected, but shower curtain did not do much apart from hug our legs (yuk!) and still let loads of water into the floor. A shower door would be much better. Also need somewhere to put clothes while showering, and something to sit on while drying feet etc.

Reasonably flat areas to set up camp, Small friendly site, very clean toilets and shower area. Good location to Mendip activity center, where there are plenty of things to do for the family. (we did frisbee golf which was a lot of fun) Also some great running routes from the site as well as good walks. Close to some good pubs for food and beer (some within walking distance but take a torch). In one field there was a goal where kids played happily together. Local shop up the hill for essentials. Easy to find.

    Disliked:

No loo paper provided, which is fine when you know. Also no bins on site, this is a little inconvenient especially if you have a dog who doesn't eat all there food.

Local attractions

For an après-ski with a West Country twist, head five minutes' drive down the road to Thatchers Cider Farm for orchard tours, trips to the on-site farm shop and the chance to try a good few ciders while you're at it. For an accompaniment to your drinks, head into Cheddar (15 minutes), home of the selfsame cheese where there are two delis plus a range of family-friendly pubs, restaurants and cafés.

If that combination of fine food and drink leaves you feeling a bit lethargic, dust yourself off and take to the walks around Cheddar Gorge (15 minutes) for fresh air and sweeping views over the Mendip Hills, or drive a bit further afield to take on Glastonbury Tor (40 minutes) and look down to the pretty market town below.

More historic buildings like those in Glastonbury are on display in Wells (30 minutes), a pint-sized city with a gorgeous cathedral deep in the Somerset countryside. There's also Bristol (40 minutes) and Bath (an hour) to visit if you fancy more urban explores, while for more countrified days out there's the top-rated Somerset Rural Life Museum (35 minutes).

  • Cheddar Caves & Gorge (6.5 kilometres)
