Myrtle Farm Holidays: Touring field

General

  • Small, level touring park in Banwell at the foot of the Mendip Hills
  • Two miles from the M5 and five from Weston-Super-Mare
  • Plenty of open space and spectacular views

As the owners of Myrtle Farm Holidays rightly point out, its setting at the foot of Somerset's Mendip Hills means there's something here for all sorts.

Weston-super-Mare is only five miles away, hilly hikes are on the doorstep, and within a quick drive you'll be at famed Somerset and Wiltshire spots like Cheddar Gorge, Bristol and Bath, Stonehenge, Longleat and anciently idiosyncratic Glastonbury. Its semi-rural location a mile from the village of Banwell has it easily accessible too: Junction 21 of the M5 and Worle train station are both two miles away and Bristol airport within 11 miles.

Under new ownership since 2016, Myrtle Farm is a family-run, small and level touring park, welcoming families and adults, and facing south with excellent views. It's well maintained and spacious with plenty of room for kids to run around.

Amenities were updated in 2019 and include a rebuilt shower and toilet block with underfloor heating and disabled facilities, and a new kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer, all spotlessly kept and supplied with soap, shower gel and shampoo. A wifi hotspot can be accessed by the amenities.

Village pubs, shops, restaurants, takeaways, a post office and a castle (cream teas in the summer, anyone?) are all a mile away at the farm's local village of Banwell.

Please note

The kitchen facilities are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The park caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Group bookings of 4 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the park are unlit.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Bookings must not consist of more than 2 different households.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (excluding couples) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Reception is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Firepits are only permitted on Field 2 pitches.

We ended up staying two nights and the second night hadn't been planned so we were impressed with this sites ability to help at short notice. The two fields are very well kept and the pitches spacious. The site is very well organised with a wide range of facilities needed by both tent and motorhome campers. Theres various waste disposals as well as washing up facilities. Washing/tumble dryer, fridge/freezers and a beautiful toilet/shower block. Very dog friendly with no upper limit on dogs allowed with a dog field where you can let them run free.
All areas of the site are kept meticulously clean and are clearly checked multiple times a day by the owner.
Multiple helpful maps and information sheets about the local area in the washing up area. Very good base for exploring various local attractions like Weston supermare and Cheddar.

    Disliked:

The only thing that lets this site down is the road noise which is obviously entirely out of the owners power to do anything about.

Local attractions

The Myrtle Farm Holidays setting at the foot of the Mendip Hills has it perfectly placed for outdoorsy days, with a vast pick of walks, cycle routes, fishing and birdwatching within easy distance.

By car, Cheddar village and the famed and fab Cheddar Gorge are very close by, as is the teeny city of Wells with its cathedral and independent shops. The National Trust-managed Victorian Gothic house of Tyntesfield is ten miles away.

Another cracking option is Glastonbury, with its independent shops and cafés, museums, Glastonbury Abbey and Glastonbury Tor. The golden sandy beaches, seaside shops and wide range of restaurants and bars at Weston-Super-Mare, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea are all within a short drive.

You'll also be within easy driving distance of the cities of Bristol and Bath and their shopping, theatres, cinemas, museums, bars and restaurants. Travel a little further to get to Wiltshire, where must-sees include Stonehenge and Longleat.

Must see

  • Cheddar Caves & Gorge (10.6 kilometres)
