Masses of space and stunning scenery all around
Relax in nature with stunning scenery all around
Stunning sunset view enjoyed by a camper during june.

  • Peaceful site in Exmoor’s Porlock Vale, for guests aged 16 and over
  • Around three miles from Minehead or the village of Porlock
  • In a farmed meadow on the National Trust's Holnicote Estate
Due for some relaxation? Take yourself away to this peaceful spot in a gorgeous, spacious nine-acre farmland meadow at Porlock Vale Campsite on Holt Ball Farm, which is on the National Trust’s Holnicote Estate in Exmoor National Park. There are spectacular views towards North Hill, Selworthy Forest, Hurlstone Point and Grabbist. Behind the field rises the splendid Dunkery Commons moorland, which is easily accessible via the bridleway just through the farm driveway, which leads up to Robin Howe, Webber’s Post and Dunkery Beacon. A green and sustainable site, Porlock Vale Campsite is conveniently positioned for exploring the surrounding Exmoor countryside, moorlands, woodlands and coast too. This includes Bossington Beach (10 minutes’ drive) and Porlock Weir (15 minutes). Impressive oak trees add to the pretty landscape and peace and quiet. A myriad of wildlife can be spotted, including buzzards, foxes, hares, rabbits, beavers and water voles - and if you’re lucky enough, you may see wild red deer passing through. The National Trust is progressing rewilding and land recovery projects in the area, making it a particularly interesting spot for folks who are interested in the environment, biodiversity, climate change and how farming is being adapted to benefit nature. The site’s theme of peace and tranquillity respects the abundance of wildlife and farm animals living here, which is why there is no amplified music or loud noise and quiet hours after 10pm. Recycling and rubbish bins are provided so that guests can leave no trace, as the field reverts back to its gorgeous natural state at the end of the season.

Peaceful escape with lekker views & chilled vibe. Owner Dawn & her dogs are a highlight! Basic but clean facilities, plenty of space. Great for exploring, many want to return. Minor points: pitches can be sloped, showers are basic.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked When leaving Porlock Vale campsite yesterday morning we were treated to the magnificent sight of two deer stags crossing the golden field of tall waving grass. It was hard to leave a place where you can wake up to such breathtaking and uninterrupted views of of fields and forests with the Bristol Channel shimmering in the distance. We spent nine days there and loved every second of our stay. With so many varied walks and lovely villages around we could have easily stayed longer. More so because we felt so at home in the great care of Dawn.
Dawn welcomes every visitor with such spirit and enthousiasm
and makes them aware of the uniqueness of the surroundings. (With the ponies of Exmoor Pony Project at the hart of or all. )
Porlock Vale campground is much more than a beautiful camping field (with all the amenities one needs), it is a place so close to nature that it will give you all the calm you need to be aware of the right things in life. Thank you Dawn!!

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A beautiful camping field with stunning views across the valley and out to sea. We had a peaceful, relaxing 4 days with some lovely walks to great tea shops: Periwinkle, Horner. Dawn was very welcoming and informative. We had a glorious afternoon seeing her Exmoor Ponys and hearing all about their plight.

From the manager: Hi Jane, so glad you enjoyed the campsite and your holiday on Exmoor and really glad you were both able to join the Meet The Exmoor Ponies farm visit, too.

Love the site, gorgeous views across the landscape! Would stay again!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The site was beautiful and dawn was lovely. Everything was clean and well maintained and it was great being a smaller campsite. Everybody respected each other in terms of noise but also would want to have a friendly chat. Would definitely come again.

Disliked The shower trailer was quite minimal for a campsite. As it was quite warm and there aren’t any windows/extract fans it was very hot inside and didn’t make for a pleasant shower.

From the manager: Hello there, I'm not sure which campers you are as you've posted 'anonymous'. Very glad you enjoyed your stay and look forward to seeing you again. As you know, this is an off grid campsite, so providing flushing loos, warm water washing up area and warm showers is quite an achievement. We're delighted to be able to provide a decent shower trailer, with two brilliant, warm glamping showers, along with spacious pitches that most campers are delighted with.

Fantastic site, have already booked again.

Liked A beautiful, tranquil spot with fabulous walks in the surrounding countryside - a place to completely unwind and enjoy the amazing views. The campsite is spacious enough to find a quiet spot and the facilities are spotless. As another reviewer posted, as a female traveler, I felt comfortable and safe here and very welcomed by the owner. Will definitely be revisiting.

Liked Wonderful views, peace, quiet and feeling of solitude 😊. Dawn is a very friendly host, and it was a treat not to have pubs and shops close by.
A real "back to basics" proper campsite.

Non-electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The welcome from Dawn, fresh air, big skies, relaxed site to catch up with friends, and incredible views are what camping is all about.

The well laid out facilities are a bonus - and amazing seeing as they are in the middle of an off grid field. Very much appreciated.

Disliked Having to leave and go home.

From the manager: Hi Jan, thank you for your lovely review and so glad you enjoyed the wonderful walking and cycling here. Hope to see you again.
It's probably a good moment to point out that while we don't have wifi at the off-grid campsite, 4G and (even 5G if you have EE) swirls around and enables most people to keep connected.

Would definitely return

Local attractions

The campsite shares the farm with the Exmoor Pony Project, a locally run initiative to breed, care for and encourage better understanding of Exmoor's rare native ponies. All the animals are housed in excellent conditions, and you can come and admire them looking their best as they trot between their barns, corrals and paddocks. Five minutes' drive away from site, the picture-postcard village of Selworthy has spectacular views over the local countryside, plus a tea room where you can fill up on freshly baked cake. For access to the sea, there's Bossington beach (10 minutes' drive), a pebble-based spot owned by the National Trust with pretty views over the Exmoor Hills, or you could take the scenic drive through forests and moors to Lynton and Lynmouth (30 minutes) for fish and chips on the quay and surfing in the spray. Exmoor is one of those fabulous places that has both countryside and coast to explore, so walkers and cyclists have a plethora of scenery to enjoy on their jaunts here. The South West Coast Path is one of the main draws, of course – you could fill many a day covering several different sections – while inland highlights include Dunkery Beacon (three miles away) and Tarr Steps (half an hour’s drive).
