Electric gravel and sand touring pitch

  • Family-friendly campsite adjoining a pub near Winfrith in Dorset
  • A 10-minute drive to the Jurassic Coast, Lulworth and Durdle Door
  • Showers and loos on site; delicious food in The Red Lion pub
The Red Lion Hotel is a family-run pub in the middle of lovely Dorset countryside near to the peaceful village of Winfrith, with a campsite on the extensive field to its rear. You can choose your own spacious pitches and the whole site is available to hire out if you’re travelling in a large group. Immaculate facilities on-site include showers, mains water toilets and a washing-up area. The adjoining pub is open throughout the year: winter brings warming log fires while summer invites alfresco dining in the pub garden – so whenever you visit, you’re assured of a constant supply of delicious food and award-winning ales. It’s a cracking base for soaking up Dorset’s rural vibe on quiet walks across the Downs, as well as being just 10 minutes’ drive from big-hitting family attractions like Jurassic Coast beaches, Durdle Door and Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre.

Electric gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: On arrival very welcoming and friendly staff. Stayed on electric hard standing ( which was actually mix of sand and gravel). All was very clean and well maintained. Allington a large field adjacent to the Red lion pub. Lots of walks to places like Lulworth. Local village also pretty with a local store and on the Saturday we went there was a Pad Thia truck which looked appetising. Had dinner in the red lion along with our small dog. All were welcome by the friendly staff. Dinner was fine and filling.

Disliked: Disliked the amount of toilets and shower facilities. There were two of each on the main site that I could imagine would get incredibly busy during a busy time. There where however a couple of additional ones on other side off pub, but people tend to be lazy and use the closest. Breakfast again was fine but very busy with a long wait so be prepared. All light dislikes as the site is well worth the visit. WiFi non existent on the site and not the best in the pub for those that like WiFi.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: There is plenty of space at this campsite and it is in a nice quiet and dark location. The staff are friendly and welcoming.

Disliked: There is no organisation for the pitches. This caused some confusion as a tent near us had pitched up in the wrong place and another camper turned up and had to ask us for help where to pitch up. The toilets regularly ran out of toilet roll.

Electric gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: Good location for jumping on the bus. Staff friendly and site clean.

Disliked: Showers good do with some hangers, on the main site, could do with a bit of maintenance as one of the showers wouldn’t keep temperature, and the other was broke were you fixed the shower head to the wall.

Electric gravel and sand touring pitch

Liked: The gravel park up pitch was good and spacious. Good location close to lulworth and durdle door. Our children and dog enjoyed the large green field space. The showers were hot, although the shower had fallen off its hook so you had to hold it the whole time. We were lucky enough to have booked a night when the local morris dancers had their meet up at the pub so had free entertainment, the first time our kids had seen Morris dancing!

Disliked: The food in the pub was pretty expensive for general pub food. There was a really annoying noise of machinery that happened every day we were there, starting early in the morning every few minutes. I know it's not the pubs fault but it was very unrelaxing!
