Primrose Organic Farm Campsite is a small, peaceful adults-only campsite on a working organic farm in the North Dorset countryside. The campsite is designed for guests looking for a relaxed rural escape, with plenty of space, open countryside and wonderfully dark skies at night. There are no regimented rows or pre-marked pitches; guests can choose a suitable spot in the camping field when they arrive, giving the site a spacious and informal feel. Guests can park their cars next to their tent or pitch; there are no electric hook-ups, so the site is best suited to those who enjoy simple, off-grid camping. Facilities are intentionally simple: toilets and hot showers are provided in portable units rather than permanent campsite wash blocks. They are clean, practical and regularly looked after, but guests should expect simple farm-camping facilities rather than a fully equipped holiday park. Fresh drinking water is available from a standpipe close to the camping field. Primrose is a working organic farm, so guests may hear tractors, livestock and the everyday sounds of farm life during their stay. Certain areas of the farm are private or working areas and are not open to campsite guests. The farm shop and café are a short walk from the camping field, with good coffee, pastries, seasonal organic produce and food from the farm and local suppliers available during opening hours. The surrounding countryside is excellent for walking, including routes that can be started directly from the farm. Despite the peaceful rural setting, Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton and Gillingham are all around four miles away, giving easy access to shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants as well as the wider North Dorset countryside. The overall feel is simple, spacious and thoughtfully looked after: countryside camping for people who value peace, good food, walking, dark skies and a few days away from the usual hustle and bustle.

Local attractions

There is plenty to explore from Primrose, whether guests want to head out on foot or use the campsite as a base for discovering North Dorset and the surrounding area. Wonderful countryside walks can be started directly from the farm, with quiet lanes, footpaths and the rolling landscape of the Blackmore Vale all around. Shaftesbury, Sturminster Newton and Gillingham are all around four miles away. Shaftesbury is particularly well known for historic Gold Hill, while all three towns provide a useful choice of independent shops, pubs, cafés, restaurants and everyday essentials. Stourhead and its famous landscape gardens are within easy reach, as are Sherborne, the Cranborne Chase countryside and numerous pretty Dorset and Somerset villages. For food and drink closer to home, Primrose has its own farm shop and café, selling seasonal organic produce from the farm alongside locally sourced food, pastries and good coffee during opening hours. The campsite is also conveniently placed for guests travelling further west. With the A303 approximately 20 minutes away, Primrose can make a peaceful short-break stop on journeys towards Devon and Cornwall — with considerably more countryside and dark sky than the average motorway stop.
