  • Quiet grass tent pitches at the foot of Milton Abbey
  • Between Hilton and Milton Abbas; 30 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Organic dairy farm with local produce for sale
The Ruins Campsite is a laidback spot to pitch your tent in the gorgeous surrounds of the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The site is set on an organic dairy farm and has many acres of grassy green meadows to admire, plus views over the historic buildings of Milton Abbey School as an added bonus. The sights and sounds of life on the farm – including mooing cows – are all up for grabs here. This quiet site is well-suited to families, couples and small groups looking for a relaxed camping break. Facilities include access to toilets and hot showers, while the farm has plenty of space for all sorts of outdoor activities, including barbecues or walking your dog (if you've brought one). The site is located between the attractive villages of Hilton and Milton Abbas; between them they have a tea rooms, farm shop and pub. A selection of fresh local produce is also sold on site. Further afield, you're a 20-minute drive from the historic market towns of Dorchester and Blandford Forum, while the Jurassic Coast is roughly half an hour away. Popular nearby beaches include Ringstead, Bowleaze Cove and Man O'War beach.

Liked: The location is beautiful with fantastic views of the abbey. It was great being able to choose where we put our tent and being able to park our car next to it. The owner was very laid back and friendly. It’s a very quiet spot with some great walks nearby.

Disliked: The toilet facilities were very basic and not that clean.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Absolutely stunning space beautiful area, kids had so much fun and space to play freely inciting other children to join in
And found the amazing ruins hidden away in the forest too

Disliked: Only negative was we didn’t have any cellphone reception if you didn’t have EE connection
Luckily the other family we were with were able to connect as we rely on gps to navigate and had to follow them wherever we went.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Loved the location in a beautiful part of Dorset which we hadn’t visited before. The campsite was quiet and the dark night skies were amazing. Good local pub that you could walk to from the campsite and an excellent farm shop close by where you could buy quality local produce. Lots of local walks. So many things to like.

Disliked: Nothing it’s basic but that’s what we expected
