Electric hardstanding touring pitch (medium, semi-serviced)

Liked: the facilities were excellent. The loo & shower block were spotless and war with lots of hot water. The pitches are large, we stayed on medium hard standing. Nice field for the dog or the kids to run around in. Every day there was cleaners, maintenance workers and gardeners, the best kept site i have ever been on. There is a pub a few mins walk away which did a nice Sunday roast but the menu is very limited during the week. i a good location for exploring the Jurassic coast. We were only going to stay 2 nights but stayed 4 instead. Will for sure be back.

Disliked: nothing

Fully-serviced grass pitch (large, super)

Liked: The facilities were outstanding, fresh milk, coffees, ice cream and lots more were available 24/7. Very clean shower and loo. We visited with a young child (under 1) and it felt very child friendly. It was large but felt very spacious as pitches were not cramped together.

Electric grass pitch (medium)

Liked: Plenty of space between pitches so even as it filled up didn’t feel crowded. People on site and staff very friendly. Shower facilities, toilet blocks etc all kept exceptionally clean and had constant hot water and never had to wait to use them. Great to have a field for doggos to use to and everyone seemed to clean up after too.

Disliked: Never had to pay to freeze blocks before so didn’t as only stayed 2 nights!

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch (large, super)

Liked: 100% our kind of site , E-mail the day before to let us know our pitch number, secure as its numberplate recognition , Spotlessly clean everywhere, a bus stop, farm shop & cafe across the road and the big bonus of having vending machines on site, for food /drinks.

Disliked: The noise from the rookery??! Although we soon got used to them.

Local attractions

However long you stay here (at least a couple of weeks, preferably), there's enough to see and do around Dorset to entertain all ages and tastes. Ditch the car if you prefer: the local bus stop is 150 yards from the farm entrance, to pick up the Jurassic Coast route bus (X53) running from Exeter to Poole. The Portesham Dairy Farm team recommends a climb up to the Hardy Monument on Black Down (five minutes' drive) as a nifty way to see Dorset and its splendid coastline (the monument isn't to the writer Thomas Hardy as you might expect in these parts, but to Vice Admiral Thomas Hardy, a commander at the Battle of Trafalgar; do be sure to tell that to the kids). You should be able to see the Devon coast, the Mendip Hills and the Isle of Wight from here on a clear day; just clamber the 120 steps up to the viewpoint. Also much recommended is Abbotsbury, home of the famed swannery as well as subtropical gardens and a kids' farm (also five minutes' drive), and the golden sands, sand sculptures and fair rides of Weymouth, 15 minutes from the farm. Portland (25 minutes) is also a must: visit the lighthouse, forage for fossils and come down the hill from the top of town for stunning views of the coast and Chesil Beach.
