Welcome to the farm

  • Peaceful family-friendly farm a few miles from Weymouth
  • Family-run for over 40 years
  • Play area, ball park area and shop
Let your spirits soar at Higher Moor Farm Campsite, a peaceful family-friendly site a few miles from the sandy stretches of Weymouth, set among eight acres of Dorset countryside. The family who run Higher Moor have farmed here for over 40 years, so can answer any questions or give tips on what to see and do in the surrounding countryside, even if your first or most pressing issue is where to get the best fish and chips locally (usually a good first question on arriving at a site). Daniel and his friendly team will do their best to ensure you have a tiptop stay, with facilities and services kept to the highest standards. As well as the usual amenities among this spectacular scenery, the farm has a play area, a ball park area and a shop. Two supermarkets within five minutes’ drive.

Lodge

Liked: Quite site. Close to places of interest. Sunny balcony. Clean but microwave very rusty.

Disliked: Small kitchenette. Mould on ceiling in bathroom. No space around bed to move safely to the loo in the.middle of the night. Pilons!!! Too light and noisy to get a decent night's sleep. (Fridge in the bedroom noisy and flashing lights on ceiling) No welcome pack such as tea, coffee, biscuits that other places provide)

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: We loved all of it!!! All very clean and accommodating. Lovely helpful staff. I have never been to a site that has, poo bags for dogs, washing up liquid, bowls and brushes. They have thought of everything. The shop is reasonably priced too. A very well kept site and we will go back again

Electric grass and gravel pitch

Liked: Everything. Wonderful warm reception from the lovely lady who made us feel really welcome. Clean toilets and hot powerful showers with plenty of facilities. Extra toilets and showers during peak times. Plenty of water and elsan points. Lots of facilities for children. Nice views and really good wifi. On site laundry and really good value for money.

Disliked: We didn't really dislike anything. There are large pylons in the next field which 'sing' in the rain but that apart this is a lovely, well priced site in pretty countryside.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Plenty to do for the children, play area, football pitch, and a games room. I liked that there was a shop on site and a curry van that visited on the Saturday night. The man on reception was extremely friendly and very helpful. The toilets and shower rooms were clean. Very close to Weymouth beach and lots of supermarkets close by. We only spent 1 night at higher moor but will definitely come back next year for a longer stay. Both my children really enjoyed the campsite there was plenty of children for them to play with.

Disliked: The noise that came from the pylon which is very close to the grass pitches was a little annoying throughout the night.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Excellent toilet and shower facilities, Lovely well stocked farm shop. Good options for eating on site, such as the pizza van, paella van that come on certain days. Friendly staff. Quiet.

Disliked: Quite busy in terms of pitches and felt quite close to one another, however this didn’t impact on it being a quiet peaceful camp. Noisy electricity pylon when wet, however this cannot be helped! Games room could do with a bit of a makeover, but nice to have the option!

Local attractions

Higher Moor Farm Campsite is minutes away from the 2012 Olympic sailing venue of Weymouth, with its sandy bay, Georgian seafront, first-class watersports facilities, Sea Life Centre and regular events including dragon boat racing and fireworks festivals. (Keep an eye out for the sand modeller, whose family has been sculpting sand in Weymouth for generations.) Portland’s also crammed with watersports options including scuba diving, and you can go fishing and rock climbing here too. The Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site is minutes away from the campsite with its ancient cliffs, walks, biking and riding trails, boat trips, angling and fossil-hunting: try the long shingle stretch at nearby Chesil Beach or Lyme Regis. If you like your history a few million years more modern, try Dorchester with its Roman amphitheatre, or go on a history tour of Dorset to take in its castles, stately homes and gardens as well as its ancient forts and landmarks. For birdwatching and wildlife spotting, the RSPB reserve Radipole Lake is about five miles away from Higher Moor and has regular events, family activities and a visitor centre. There’s also the popular Studland Beach & Nature Reserve along the coast at Swanage, which was the inspiration for Toytown in the Noddy stories and which has all six species of British reptiles dwelling round about. If you have mini naturalists in the family, they’ll also like walking among the mute swan colony at Abbotsbury Swannery, chattering with the inhabitants at the Monkey World Ape Rescue Centre or feeling fancy at the (free) Fancys Family Farm in Portland. Elsewhere in Dorset, the appropriately-named Poole with its natural harbour is another highly popular spot with watersports enthusiasts and is easily accessible from Higher Moor, as is the neighbouring seaside town of Bournemouth. For other day trips, try Swanage, Wareham or East Bay – or take a ferry ride to one of the Channel Islands from Weymouth.
