Liked: A beautiful and peaceful site with rolling hills and fields for a view and plenty of farm animals, walks and a wonderful old oak tree with swings. I highly recommend Moonfleet and my children (6 and 12) would too.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Amazing facilities with extras to book while you are visiting and lovely area. The views are amazing. Owner is lovely and I love that they pop by in the evening asking if you need firewood etc. Really clean and has everything you need for a great holiday! There are tree swings for the kids and a little non functioning train track through the middle. Very clean throughout and overall one of the nicest places we’ve ever stayed. Even had WiFi in the fields to keep the kids entertained in the evenings once it was quiet time. Will 100% be rebooking and cannot wait!

Liked: Lovely small campsite. Lots of places for the kids to explore. Showers were good and excellent size to shower a family. Linda, Clive and Rowena very friendly and helpful.

Disliked: Slightly exposed site so we did get some wind but still able to have a campfire.

Electric optional grass tent, campervan or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Really quiet pitch, super friendly owners, facilities are excellent. Work the site with the owners on arrival and who made sure we knew where everything was.

Disliked: Not a dislike but just an awareness, the owners have installed wet rooms which include the toilets, when it is busy you may have to wait a little minute to use the facilities.

From the manager: Thanks for the feedback. Our shepherds hut showers are being refurbished next week which should make life easier....

Local attractions

The walks around Moonfleet Farm along local lanes and through scenic Dorset countryside lead to the likes of pretty local village Milton Abbas, Milton Abbey, Athelhampton House, Cerne Abbas and sending the kids into fits of giggles when they spy mighty chalk Cerne Giant etched into the hillside. Arf. A heap of other Dorset history is a little further afield, such as that at the former Saxon cathedral of Sherborne Abbey, or at historic houses and gardens, abbeys and churches. Also go for Corfe Castle on the Isle of Purbeck and potter around the county town of Dorchester with the Dinosaur Museum, Dorchester Museum, Teddy Bear Museum, Tutankhamen Exhibition and the Roman Amphitheatre. (Have a look at the Thomas Hardy Trail and weekly market in Dorchester too.) Wareham, Swanage, Weymouth, and Salisbury are easily accessible by car and have enough to do to keep you going for several weeks; among our many recommendations are puffing along on award-wining and steamy Swanage Railway, seeing Salisbury's splendid cathedral, wandering around the RSPB reserve at Weymouth or hiking the 15 or so miles of the spectacular Purbeck Way. Fishing fan? Investigate the waters around the harbours of Poole and Weymouth.
