Looking to really, really get back to nature? Well, this may be the spot for you. Chalk Meadow is a secluded grass paddock site on the outskirts of the sleepy Dorset village of Broadmayne. Facilities are minimal (just loos and hot showers) and there’s no electricity, but that’s part of its rural charm. Couples, families and well-behaved dogs – all are welcome here, for relaxing country breaks mooching across the fields. And if you want to get out exploring, there’s plenty to do for everybody. You can walk to Osmington White Horse in 45 minutes, and if you’re looking forward to splashing around in the sea with the kids, you’ve got the choice of Chesil (25 minutes), Preston and Ringstead (both 15 minutes) beaches. Get set to spark up the barbecue on site (just remember to bring your own) as it’s an easy 10-minute walk to Broadmayne to stock up on supplies in the convenience stores. Don’t want to cook? No worries – there’s a pub in the village too. For bigger shopping trips, the lively market town of Dorchester (10 minutes' drive) is your best bet, and you’ll probably want to stay a while to poke around its markets, museums and Thomas Hardy's Cottage (15 minutes).

Peaceful, neat site with big pitches. Jim (owner) is super friendly & helpful. Showers are hot & clean. Rural but close to town. Basic, but well-kept facilities are great for a quiet escape. Highly recommended.

Liked Loved this campsite! The toilets and showers were clean. The campsite had plenty of room and was peaceful which was what I was looking for.
The owner stopped by whilst checking the facilities and was lovely and helpful with recommending some areas to eat and see.
I hope to come back on my next trip to Dorset.

Liked Super quiet location, facilities, whilst basic, were perfect for what we needed. The owner came round each day to check in with us. Fab location for Weymouth beaches, without being amongst the throng. Showers were hot and good pressure.

Liked The guy was super friendly, making sure everything was ok.
The showers are hot, powerful and clean
The site was clean, tidy and flat.
The flexible leaving time was great, it allowed us to extend the stay another half day. Yes we could have packed up then looked around, but we could look around, packup, have a shower and be nice and fresh for the trip home (over 4 hours each way)

Liked Loved the fields and peaceful countryside, no fuss just a simple camping site, showers worked fine as did the hot water. Jim was a wonderful owner and checked everything was ok and really wanted to know everyone was having a nice stay.

Liked Loved everything about this site. Site didnt feel crowded and relaxed atmosphere. Jim is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Facilities very clean. Loads of lovely soft toilet paper! Loved that you can pitch anywhere and at any time. Only 15 easy minutes walk to a nice pub and post office. What more do you want. Would definitely come back

Local attractions

Where first for the kids? SEA LIFE Centre Weymouth (15 minutes' drive), Fantasy Island (15 minutes) or the Teddy Bear Museum in Dorchester (10 minutes)? If that’s not enough to keep them happy, you can try Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre (20 minutes). Plenty of adventures await along the Jurassic Coast too. Go walking at Chesil Beach (25 minutes), or search for fossils on the pebbly beach at Charmouth (50 minutes). You can stroll along the cliff path from pretty Lulworth Cove to see Durdle Door (both 20 minutes) or gaze out over the English Channel from Portland Bill Lighthouse (40 minutes). The kids have had their fun, so now you get a go. Weymouth (20 minutes) has a pretty harbour lined with boats as well as lots of seafront bars and restaurants, while Poole (40 minutes) is a great spot for pub crawling with a whole slew of restaurants. If late nights are not your thing, have a nose around the hilltop ruins of Corfe Castle (30 minutes).
