Electric grass pitch

Liked: Just Wow !!!! What a beautiful site!!! Very clean and picturesque site. Had great sized pitches, that were nicely separated. The top of the site overlooks the sea which had stunning views over the bays. The toiletā€™s and shower rooms were very clean and there were 3 blocks. The shop was pretty good too, selling local burgers and sausages for BBQā€™s etc. Great Launderette and dish washing facilities. Staff very friendly and helpful. A walk to a Pub through the site. A great little bar which had Pizza and curry night. Owning a dog there was an absolute pleasure with the fantastic dog field at the top which was massive!! Over looking the sea and the bays and the site had its own beach further down the coastal path. The steps were quite steep ā€¦.. so donā€™t carry too much !!!! All in all couldnā€™t recommend enough this site an absolute 5 star site at very desirable prices compared to others.

Disliked: Nothing !!!!

Liked: Our 1st time camping so nothing to compare but great little site. We pitched up in D3 for the views but we chose the windiest week of the year so in hindsight probably not the most ideal spot, go down in the valley if wind is forecast! Lesson learned. We only used the shower block opposite the goats/sheep - clean, always one available (we was the last week of opening) & plenty of hot water. Hairdryers available to use, hand soap for the sinks & toilet paper in each cubicle. We rented a fire pit which was interesting in gale force winds but we had promised a toddler toasted marshmallows! On site they had a play park (for older children) and then a small area with a few toddler play pieces in. There was an open fronted area with mini pool table & a couple of football tables. Broadsands is down 200 or so fairly treacherous steps so we didnā€™t risk it with our 3 year old. It unfortunately didnā€™t look like the photos online as it was a pretty miserable day (of course not campsitesā€™ fault :) - but still a worth a little explore without small children Iā€™d say. Not really a ā€˜pack the bucket & spadeā€™ type beach. Combe Martin beach 4min drive away is great for exactly this! Visited twice - once in the rain & once in glorious sun. Excellent walks around some caves and rock pools, fun exploring for fish & crabs for little ones. We cooked 2 nights & went to Sawmills pub (5min walk through the site) for 2 nights. Lovely pub, would be great to sit outside in the summer, cute deck. Huge portions! Delicious food. We walked to Watermouth Harbour (small) in about 20mins (with toddler legs in tow), cute tea room there where we got some brownies to go. Went over to Watermouth Castle for the afternoon - great fun for little ones (Iā€™d say older than 5/6 theyā€™d be bored).

Disliked: The day before we were due to arrive they changed their website to say the on site food & bar were to be closed the week we were there. I only knew this because I wanted to remind myself of the themed nights. This didnā€™t really affect our stay, but I was disappointed as the menus looked delicious and was excited to try. I get that it probably doesnā€™t make sense to open them if super quiet.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Efficient book in. Very clean and tidy site. Friendly staff. Bus stop right outside plus a friendly pub right next to site. We stayed on their last week of opening. We noticed that they had catered with games tables etc for the younger members. Shop was well stocked as well. They also have a bar which is open on a Friday and a Saturday.

Disliked: Knew the site was not on level ground but even with our ramps we were still not level. We managed, WIFI not brilliant.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Great campsite with good facilities and in a convenient location. We were on the hardstanding electric pitches which are down in the valley, but in the top field you can get sea views. The coast path goes through the campsite and you can walk along and down about 240 steps to Broadsands Beach which is beautiful and weā€™ll definitely be coming back when itā€™s sunnier for a swim! There were also some very cute bunnies that we saw several times and felt like we made friends with!

Local attractions

Time to tick off the North Devon coves and harbours? Start with splendid Combe Martin (five minutesā€™ drive), a seaside resort with a sheltered cove for peaceful days on the sand. Surfers might want to slide on over to Saunton Sands (half an hour), while those seeking scenic clifftop hikes will get on well with the Valley of Rocksā€™ (35 minutes) wild goats and sea views. Take off on a fishing trip or a sea safari from Ilfracombe Harbour (10 minutes). Lundy Island is one of the most popular tour spots for such boat trips. Thereā€™s a working lifeboat station in the harbour too if that sort of stuff entertains you. Once youā€™ve checked out the lifeboats, turn back time a little with a trip to Arlington Court (20 minutes), a National Trust site with a Regency house and a carriage museum. Or perhaps all the way back to the time of dinosaurs? Kids are likely to love the life-sized dino models at Combe Martin Wildlife & Dinosaur Park (10 minutes) and its zoo and fossil museum.
