  • Wild camping field with spectacular views over Cornish countryside
  • A 40-minute drive to the Eden Project, and 20 minutes from Newquay
  • Dog-friendly pitches on a 25-acre site; the beach 10 minutes’ drive
At the top of a valley overlooking the Cornish village of Callestick, Callestick Camping has uninterrupted views to a historic tin mine over a patchwork of green fields. Families, surfers, walkers – and their dogs – all are welcome on this spacious site near Truro with an off-grid, wild camping vibe. With 25 acres spread over four fields and only a small number of pitches, you all have plenty of space for playing with the kids and walking the dog safely. You are also welcome to have a firepit by your tent. From the camping field, it’s a 10-minute stroll into Callestick, home to a well-known ice-cream parlour and a cider farm. Keen to get out in the open air? You can play golf and go horse riding along Perranporth beach (a particularly lovely spot at sunset) in less than 10 minutes’ drive. This is very much a back-to nature-campsite without electricity, so don’t bring the hairdryer. There are toilets though, plus a gas-heated shower, chemical disposal point and a cold-water washing-up sink.

Inner Field non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Everything - from being greeted by the friendly owners, to the option to have breakfast cooked for you in the morning, to the nice view from the campsite, to the clean facilities. They are slightly rustic but clean and do the job well! The showers are hot and the toilets are proper toilets. Also close to the Rattler cider farm (across the road )

Disliked: Not got anything bad to say!

Valley View non-electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Brilliant location, have stayed before. The owners did a quick walk around and checked on everyone and the next morning we were informed there was no urgency to vacate. This really helped due to adverse weather the night before and having to sort everything. Would thoroughly recommend. Amazing value for money, really good facilities and close to local interests

Bell tent

Liked: Emma and Richard were very welcoming hosts, made sure we had everything we needed and any problems were addressed straight away, very friendly and couldn’t of asked for better people to spend the week on the site with. Hosted a film night on a big screen with a fire and felt like friends rather than just our hosts. The bell tent was an amazing experience with very comfy beds and all the amenities we could need from a gas stove to cutlery, couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Made us and our girls feel so welcome to their place and would highly recommend to anybody looking for a fantastic place to stay in the heart of Cornwall. The site was well situated, not far from the beach and only 30mins to most hotspots in Cornwall. 10/10 and 10 out of 5 stars. John, Kirsty and kids

Disliked: Kirsty said spiders but she’s like that at home anyway 😂 but nothing I can think of at all.

Bell tent

Liked: We had a fantastic stay! The bell tent was spacious, spotless, and surprisingly well-equipped. The campsite itself felt private and peaceful with plenty of room to relax. We loved the breakfast options and the friendly owners went above and beyond with their hospitality. While the facilities are basic, it adds to the charm of the place. A perfect escape!

Local attractions

Enjoy exploring on foot? Callestick Camping is surrounded by green lanes, bridleways and coastal paths. An easy walk is to Healey’s Cornish Cyder Farm (five minutes’ stroll) to sample local scrumpy. If it’s surfing all the way for you, the fabled Fistral surfing beach is at Newquay (20 minutes’ drive), while Perranporth beach (10 minutes) has three miles of sand and fantastic surfing waves, with plenty of surf schools and hire shops on tap. To learn about Cornish mining heritage, head for abandoned Wheal Coates tin mine (15 minutes’ drive – recognise it from the TV series ‘Poldark’?), or other relics including Blue Hills (15 minutes) and Great Wheal Charlotte (20 minutes). The site is fairly central to the north and south coasts, meaning that Cornwall’s main attractions are easily drivable, from Atlantic views at Land’s End Landmark Attraction (50 minutes’ drive) to the biospheres packed with rare plants at the Eden Project (40 minutes). Falmouth (half an hour) offers indie shops and seafront eateries as well as hidden coves to splash around in.
