Allet Farm: The pitch area

General

  • Pop-up camping field on a Cornish farm near Truro and Perranporth
  • A 20-minute drive from Newquay’s zoo and Fistral surfing beach
  • Wild camping close to a cider farm, pubs, shops and animal sanctuaries

Allet Farm’s wild camping field is set on a working farm near Truro in Cornwall, with cows and Shetland ponies grazing peacefully in neighbouring fields. This is a smashing, pop-up base for surfers (close to north-coast beaches) and families with curious kids (lots of wildlife attractions).

For starters, the site owners are happy to show anyone around the farm and introduce their animals, and within 40 minutes, you can treat the children to close-up encounters at the Cornish Seal Sanctuary.

Visits to Newquay Zoo and the Screech Owl Sanctuary (both 20 minutes’ drive) are on the cards too, and you can let younger kids run around in safe play areas at Lappa Valley (15 minutes) to tire them out too.

Now about those surfing spots: Newquay’s famed Fistral beach is a 20-minute drive away. Expert or complete surfing rookie? It doesn’t matter here, as you can hire boards, take lessons or simply jump on a wave. Trips to Perranporth (10 minutes) and Chapel Porth (15 minutes) beaches should be on your itinerary too.

Back on site, simple amenities include a loo block, washing-up area and a communal fridge – and wifi is available in some places. As well as cider farm (yay – tasting available) and ice-cream parlour (another score for the kids), there’s a family-friendly pub in Shortlanesend village (five minutes), and a local store where you can pick up essentials.

Lovely countryside aspect with terrific views. Smaller site, quiet and friendly. Ideal for those who don't enjoy the noise and distances of large sites. East access to town by car and well positioned for access to north and south coasts.
Very clean facilities and well maintained pitches. Kids loved the miniature Shetlands and their foals and the other animals.

Excellent little campsite in family farm, clean facilities and close to lots of different beaches and other tourist attractions. We went on daytrip to Lizard point, only 1 hour away. Nearest beach, only 10 minutes away. Owners are amazing, friendly and helpful. Took us round to see all their animals, the cutest ponies and their babies. If you are looking for a quiet site, family friendly then I highly recommend Allet Farm. We had a lovely stay and would definitely go back. Thank you for having us!

The kids said “best site ever” and they weren’t wrong.09/01/2021

We loved absolutely everything about this site. Every aspect of our stay was perfect but the bits that stood out: all Owners very helpful & kind, the wonderful peaceful location, the adorable animals and the cleanliness of the site.

We couldn’t have wished for a better bank holiday weekend. We came away with more memories than we did from our main holiday this year.

The site was very easy to find from the directions given and well marked. The greeting on arrival was so personalised it was worlds apart from that you would get on a big site. Information received about local beaches was great - we were told about a beach that suited our needs perfectly, our boys loved it so much we squeezed in a second visit despite our packed agenda. We’re horse lovers and getting to meet all the animals including the beautiful miniature Shetlands was a real highlight - the Owners all gave us so much of their time I felt a bit guilty keeping them from what they probably needed to be doing! They didn’t seem to mind though, they were such lovely people and very relaxed.

Location perfect- in three days we achieved loads because everything was really easy to get to… local ice cream parlour, Healeys Cider Farm, Porthtowan beach (twice), TrelissIck House & Gardens, a crossing on the King Harry car ferry, St Mawes, St Michael’s Mount (boat there, walk across causeway back). All very enjoyable. We only drove through St Agnes but that looked lovely, on the list for next time.

Facilities - well, I’m so fussy about cleanliness that it’s the main reason for us always using our caravan rather than camping (this is the first time we’ve had the tent out in over 12 years) but I can honestly say I had no need to worry, both toilet/shower facilities and washing up room were absolutely spotless. I felt very comfortable using everything which is quite remarkable for me! Great touch having huge fridge/freezer available to use and nice seating area with WiFi (although I didn’t use the WiFi as it was a proper get away type holiday I was after).

We loved the fact cars were parked away from pitches, not only did it make it safe for the children to play but it made it more peaceful (only a few meters away, still easy to get stuff/get back to it in just a few steps)!

I was chuffed to bits when our boys (7&11) said “best site ever” because it was the quietest site we’ve been to and it showed them what a good time they could have without entertainment/gadgets (we purposely looked for a pitch with no electric and didn’t use the WiFi). Seeing them play properly together and really enjoy themselves was great.

All in all absolutely brilliant and we can’t wait to visit next year. Just what we needed. Thank you so much Jean and family.

Peaceful countryside.. Near to some beautiful places.. Small little site.. Great having a fridge freezer and microwave

    Disliked:

Was an absolute nightmare to find at night in the dark as unlit roads and sat nav don't take you right there .. One of the lady owners was very rude and condescending she felt the need to disturb us on our first night about 1030pm just as we were about to bed down to inform us to move our car when we had already agreed it was OK with the polite chatty white haired man due to it nearly being season end and as a one off , she could have waited until morning to ask us to move it as it would have only involved one journey across the field either way, the way it was said was aggressive she could have said it in an entirely different tone as the way she approached us got my partners back up so he was equally rude back.. There is only 1 shower and 2 toilets so in summer if full would be big queues for using them.. WE WOULD DEFO NOT BE STAYING HERE AGAIN.. DESPITE ITS GOOD POINTS..

From the manager...

Thank you for your feedback, we know that it can be difficult to find your way on Cornwall’s rural roads and do send clear instructions by email when confirming the booking.

As a small site, which opens for a limited time over the summer, we appreciate that our facilities are limited. We do try to ensure that they are balanced with the numbers we have on site at any one time.

We are very clear in our site description, welcome email and upon arrival that cars cannot be parked next to the pitches. It was unfortunate that you chose to ignore this when returning to site in the evening and I am sorry that you found my polite request to move your car as rude. We believe that restricting cars is important for the safety of young children on the site.

Health and safety is very important to us and we completed a full risk assessment on the property before opening, and carry out routine checks daily. No incident was reported during the two days that you were on site and you appeared fit and healthy when packing up your tent on the second day.
