  • Pick-your-own pitch wild camping site by the Tamar river in Cremyll
  • A five-minute walk to the local pub and foot ferry to Plymouth
  • Next to the 865-acre Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park
Now here’s a cool Cornwall location that’s got a bit of everything… Camp Bedrock is just outside Cremyll on the Rame Peninsula, with the entrance to the 865-acre Mount Edgcumbe House and Country Park five minutes’ walk away along the coast path. This is a pretty waterside woodland spot on the banks of the Tamar river (and at the start/finish point of the Tamar Way), and you can also follow the coast path down to lovely seaside spots like the twin villages of Kingsand and Cawsand – or all the way along to the sandy beach and surf school at Whitsand Bay. As the location faces west you’ll often be treated to a colourful sunset as the backdrop to your evening barbecue or campfire too. So that’s countryside, river and coast sorted – anything else? Well, yes actually – the city of Plymouth is just across the river, and easily accessed via the foot ferry a few minutes’ walk away. That means you can be at the restaurants of Royal William Yard in about 20 minutes, or exploring the city centre’s attractions (like the Barbican, the Mayflower Steps and National Marine Aquarium) in about 45 minutes. Closer to base, there’s also a lovely waterside pub about five minutes’ walk away, and plenty of facilities within the country park (including some nice cafés as well as activities like alpaca walks and disc golf). On site, it’s a dog- and family-friendly setup where you can pick your own pitch. As a pop-up wild camping location there are no frills, but you will have access to compost toilets.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely spot. Nice site, great location, near Cremyll ferry, and walking distance of a nice pub on the Coast Path. Very basic .The composting toilet was kept very clean. I'd certainly recommend it.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Catching the ferry across the Mount Edgecumbe, then walking to the site. The calm, peaceful feel of the site when we set up. The cleanliness of toilet. The fact that host had set up wood for campfire in the pit, ready for us when we arrived. The coastal path which led to little harbour to look at Plymouth in the dark. My son enjoyed exploring the outbuilding with graffiti art at night wit a torch.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location within 10 mins of a pub

Disliked: Sloping ground for most of the site no defined pitches wake up to van or tent within 3 feet of you. Part of the advertised woodland pitches are actually within 4 yards and there is a single saw dust plastic 50 gallon drum of a loo. Overall a very disappointing site not really suitable for tents of vehicles for the majority of the small acre and half of grass. Paid for two nights stayed 1. £24 for a night not worth half that

Non-electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked: The range of terrain, length of grass, mature trees, sunny spots, the old buildings and the grafitti art. The location next to the path to the riverside beaches, the pub, the foot ferry to Plymouth and the buses, not to mention close proximity to the country park too. The riverside location facing west gave us a lovely sunset to enjoy sitting on a blanket on the grass overlooking the river through the trees where the evening sun shone through. The fresh air smell of salty river, freshly cut grass and wild honeysuckle was beautiful and then moving to the communal firepit to keep warm for sunset was lovely. The compost toilet was so clean and plenty of paper, sawdust wood chippings and antibacterial waterless soap was great. There was also hand soap by the main water tap. A lovely mixture of woodland, open grass, old buildings. I liked the patches of stinging nettles and other wild plants left for the butterflies and other wild creatures to benefit.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Perfect location for any Plymothians without a car - closer to Cremyll ferry (and the pub!) than Edgecumbe House itself. Graffiti is cool. Plenty of fun shelters for rainy weather. You can see the river (and sunset) from some pitches.

Disliked: Noise pollution from the dockyard noticeable.
