  • Quiet family site on the banks of the River Winnick
  • On Pentewan coastal village's edges, 10 minutes' drive to St Austell
  • Direct access to the Pentewan Trail; nearest beach a 25-minute walk
Seeking a quiet site in Cornwall for a hol with the kids and dogs? Seek no more: Little Winnick Touring Park, on the banks of the River Winnick and on the edge of the coastal village of Pentewan, is a firmly family-friendly place that welcomes guests of all ages as well as their four-legged friends… If your pup’s eager to sniff out an adventure, bound along the dog-walking field or head to the Roseland Heritage Coast – the park’s on the edges of this protected area and is also excellently placed for hiking and biking around Cornwall’s countryside. It has direct access from the grounds to the Pentewan Cycle Trail, which connects the coastal village of Mevagissey with the Lost Gardens of Heligan via St Austell (just under a 10-minute drive away). So that’s your four-legged friend occupied – but what of the kids? Younger guests are more than sorted thanks to a play area and wildflower meadow to run about in on site, plus a toy basket, sports kit and books that can be borrowed from reception. For small travellers, treats including marshmallows for toasting and freshly picked strawberries are available in the park shop to sate a sweet tooth, along with coffee, newspapers and other essentials for the grownups. Wanting food to cook on your stove among the gorgeous greenery at the park or fancy strolling down the road for supper? A bus stop is outside the grounds with access to supermarkets in nearby towns and the local pub is within easy walking distance. Award-winning and spotless amenities at this site include showers and toilets – the park’s a former Loo of the Year winner – a full-size bath, a washing-up area and a launderette.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The site was absolutely impeccable, so much so we actually extended our stay. Bathrooms religiously cleaned, hairdryer in shower block and family bathroom was a godsend with two young children (even locked when children not on the site to prevent misuse). Lovely little play area and pitches were generous, flat and not too far from the toilet block. Site is close to Mevagissy, St Austell, Eden Project, Charlestown and Porthpean. All worth a visit. We will be back!

Disliked: Honestly nothing. This is the best site we’ve stayed at this summer since getting back into camping. Some of the previous comments on the free wifi are ridiculous. It’s free and perfectly usable.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We spent two nights at this lovely site, the site was spotless well kept with an extremely helpful and friendly couple on site who made us very welcome. Has a bus stop right outside with buses frequently running to Mevagissey and St Austell. Very relaxing. Our dog was very welcome with an excellent dog walking area. We will return next time for longer.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Very nice park with good walks and close by regular bus service. Friendly staff. There is a very nice walk by the river down to the coast. Also close to the lost gardens of helligan. Clean and tidy site with services in easy reach.

Disliked: WiFi was very hit and miss. No phone signal. Also our pitch was under a large tree so when it rained it sounded like rocks falling on the roof!

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Little Winnick Farm is a lovely place. We stayed there for six days. Our pitch had electricity, close to the toilets and showers. When we arrived they were serving pizza, but we’ve already eaten so not sure how it tasted. The smell was divine! The showers and toilets were clean, there is also a family shower which we were surprised to find. There is a lovely coffee shop with nice cakes and also a playground for children. The people in the office are nice and very friendly. We left one hour later due to having two very small and needy children and a big tent to put away. They were very understanding and did not charged us extra which we thought they might. It was a very kind gesture which we trully appreciate. There are loads of things, places and beaches to visit in this area. We did not manage to see everything we’d planned. We will be definitely coming back next summer.

Disliked: Every place has many good things but also some which can be done even better. We spotted few things like these: Family shower place would be nice also with a shower hose/head. The pressure in the washing up area was so strong we both ended up soaking wet. The taps were running for two seconds and then stopped. It would be great to lower the pressure and make it run slightly longer. One of the women toilet was constantly leaking. The taps for drinking water were squirting water everywhere too. A little nozzle at the end of the tap would rectify that. The free showers are such a luxury, but they run for five seconds which is so annoying when you have a head full of shampoo and can’t see. You need to hold the button almost constantly to rinse yourself well. Somebody complained about the traffic noise in the evening, but that is nothing compared to the plane traffic of Heathrow which we hear every day. The wifi is not good. Get yourself a Starlink if you need to be connected with the world. 😉

Local attractions

There’s lots to see within a short stroll of the site – including the King’s Wood just across the river (under 10 minutes on foot) for wanders. It’s a 40-minute jaunt to the Lost Gardens of Heligan if you fancy flitting about in this 19th-century-inspired botanical space. To switch green scenery for sandy shores, the nearest beach – Pentewan Sands – is about a 25-minute walk away; get in the car for seaside stints further afield such as at the Polperro Heritage Coast. Cornish villages, towns and cities are also top for traipsing about: try Mevagissey (five minutes) and Fowey (25 minutes) to roam beside pretty harbours backed by colourful houses or head to Truro (half an hour) for the well-known cathedral.
