  • Small dog-friendly site surrounded by the Cornwall countryside
  • A 15-minute drive from the beach; 10 minutes from Tahidy Woods
  • Free-range eggs available; pub nearby; small kitchen area on site
Raise a toast to the Cornwall countryside at Bowling Green Farm Campsite… whether it’s beer and sausages over sunset, a feelgood firepit evening or frying up some free-range eggs for breakfast, this small, family-run site just outside Carn Brea makes a breezy little base for all sorts of outdoor antics. Five minutes’ drive away from Rudruth, it’s in an area where chimney stacks act as a reminder of Cornwall’s mining heritage and farmland makes for rather sublime scenery. Stay here and you’ll be planting down in a large field that's got plenty of handy comforts. When you haven’t got a firepit alight, you can knock up meals or snacks at a small kitchen area that's got a washing-up area, a microwave, a kettle and a toaster. You’ll be able to get your paws on free-range eggs here; for your other familiar foods, there are supermarkets and shops a short drive down the hill. The site is a five-minute walk away from a dog-friendly pub with a reputation for its real ale selection and food. As for rules on site, noise should be kept to a minimum after 10pm and dogs kept on leads and cleaned up after. Barbecues should also be propped up using a brick from the stack by the bins, and ashes safely disposed of in the metal bin provided. If you do have a canine companion, it's handy to note there are dog walks a short stroll away – or there’s the daring Great Flat Lode, a 12-kilometre trek that circles Carn Brea, 10 minutes’ walk away.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: Absolutely the best location allowing you easy access to all the parts of Cornwall you want / need. The toilet and bathroom facilities were brilliant and always clean and the bonus of being able to buy fresh produce from the end of the site was fab and the kids loved it! We will be coming back it was that good!

Disliked: I loved this site... BUT our pitch was on the narrower end and because of how we have to pitch our awning, the entrance to the tent was right next to the access road - had we been on a pitch at the other end this would not have been an issue at all but there is a huge difference in size of EHU pitches

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Lovely quiet campsite with immaculately clean shower rooms and toilets. Nice central location - 20mins to 30 mins drive to flambards and several lovely beaches as well as a fabulous country park where you can feed the squirrels! Tehidy country park is fabulous - great for walks and fun for the kids. We loved the fresh eggs available for sale each day - from the birds on the farm! And we even had one of the enormous cucumbers too!

Disliked: Nothing really major - pitches bit smaller than we are use too but luckily we rarely had neighbours! No ball games - but must admit our little boy did have a little kick about and we played scatch a couple of times - only after we saw others playing ball games.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked: The campsite had clean toilets and showers that were pleasant to use and the extra indoor facilities like the toaster and kettle were very useful in the morning when making breakfast. They had fresh vegetables and eggs at the entrance of the campsite that you could buy, we enjoyed the view.

Disliked: The electric pitches were a bit crowded and too close together. it was a shame that you couldn’t play ball games on the field as that might’ve been an added attraction.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: A wonderful and peaceful site in west Cornwall. Clean and well kept with great facilities and beautiful planted borders. Site owners are friendly and helpful and there's a map in the kitchen room showing local amenities which is a great idea. Two family sized shower and toilet rooms plus two other toilets. Free use of hot water, microwave and kettle was really helpful. Lots of space for children to play. We enjoyed our stay and visiting the local area. Thank you.

Disliked: If pressed my only criticism would be that the two singe toilet cubicles are a bit small for turning around in but that's a minor niggle.

Route directions

If approaching from Redruth through the village of Carnkie, don't turn right up Carn Brea Lane. Instead, continue out of the village and take the next turning on the right behind the large sign saying 'Welcome to Piece'. The entrance to the campsite is almost immediately on the right. If approaching from Pool/Camborne, turn left at the Countryman pub and then take the next left into Bowling Green. Again, the entrance to the site is on the right-hand side.

Local attractions

A proud beach bum or just fond of some sand-based activities? The waves at the large, sandy Portreath beach (15 minutes’ drive) are a magnet for surfing, while dog-friendly The Towans has sand dunes that are well suited to an easygoing walk or perhaps some sandcastle construction. Tehidy Woods (10 minutes) is another place to get your dog's exercise in. Meanwhile, at Land's End Landmark Attraction (50 minutes) you can swap forest trails for clifftop paths (and some bargain-hunting in the shopping village). Add a little tropical flavour to your stay… the rainforest biomes at Eden Project (55 minutes) are the type of place where you’ll want to get lost on purpose. Another of these lose-yourself-worthy gardens is The Lost Gardens of Heligan (55 minutes), with over 200 acres to look around. And to conquer some new lands? At Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes), you’ll be in a whole new sphere of rides and rollercoasters, while Pendennis Castle (half an hour) will take you back to Tudor times with its weaponry, keep and fortress.
