  • Small, friendly and family-run site on the north Cornish coast
  • On the South West Coast Path 10 minutes' walk from Perranporth beach
  • Firepit and hay bale for each pitch; free-range eggs and pork for sale
For relaxed break on a family-friendly smallholding, consider Cligga Cliff Farm and you’ll be sold as soon as you spot the sea views – the site is right on the South West Coast Path, with Perranporth beach a 10-minute walk away. Strollers and cyclists are well catered for at this park, with saunters along the seaside and biking trails easy to set off on; all sorts of other activities are available too, as surf schools, a golf course and a seawater swimming pool are in Perranporth. Riding stables are a mile away in Reen if you’re up for trotting over the top terrain. Back at the park, there’s lots of room on each pitch for chilling out in style: a firepit and haybale are provided for comfy, warm alfresco evenings. Kids can run free in the hay bale play area and across the green grounds or say oink to the smallholding’s rare-breed Cornish black pigs under your watchful eye too. Firewood, camping essentials and various edibles – including bread, milk and the site's free-range eggs and pork – are for sale in the site shop (housed in a bell tent). You can also pick up bird feed here to endear yourselves to the passing wildlife, and acquire souvenirs in the form of site postcards, tea towels and resuable cups. Facilities are basic at this park – which is all part of the appeal – but there are showers and compost toilets.

Local attractions

The main attraction at this park is the excellent access to coastal walks and cycle routes right from the grounds. Wander down to Perranporth beach, a fab family-friendly stretch of sand 10 minutes’ stroll away, to try a bit of surfing and kayaking or just settle in on a towel and watch the kids play. If you’re up for a longer lope, potter two miles to the Perran Round Iron Age fort or saunter to St Agnes (four miles away) for a cracking cove and more chances to ride waves. The surfing hub of Newquay is also nearby (15 minutes' drive) and has a zoo to zoom around as well. Other major Cornish attractions including the Eden Project, with its futuristic biodomes filled with botanicals, and the Tate St Ives contemporary art museum, are within a 40-minute drive. Take a trip to Truro (20 minutes), the capital of the county, as well to admire the cathedral. More ace architecture is sprinkled throughout the region, including the National Trust’s Trelissick Garden (25 minutes), the pretty Prideaux Place (40 minutes) and the John Nash-designed Caerhays Castle.
