  • Environmentally friendly site in the Luxulyan Valley
  • A mile from the Eden Project
  • Workshops, wildlife walk and communal firepit
Acorn Camping and Glamping, in Cornwall’s Luxulyan Valley, is an artfully environmentally friendly site with workshops to pique your interest – and it's only a mile from environmentally excellent days at the famed Eden Project too. Budding scholars, get ready to blossom. You could learn sculpture carving or indulge your inner clown by picking up circus skills, including aerial workshops in the site's own woodland… Kids can scavenge about on a woodland hunt and learn how to make dens and build fires – and fiction fans of all ages can listen enthralled to the storyteller who visits in summer. The Luxulyan Valley is a World Heritage Site with Acorn Camping and Glamping at its heart near Par: expect seven acres of meadows and woodland, a private woodland walk, an abundance of wildlife and a network of waterside walks, all centrally placed to some of Cornwall’s most famed attractions. As a tiny back to basics site, it’s Par for the course that Acorn allows campfires: blocks are available to stand barbecues on and the communal firepit takes care of cooking (pick up some logs from the site owners). Facilities include toilets, hot water showers, hot-water washrooms and a washing-up area with cold water. Only logs are sold on site, but a shop and a pub are a mile and a half away. Pitches are on a gently sloping three-quarters of an acre: park at the site entrance and offload your gear on the trolleys provided to get to your pitch. Sorry but, because of the local wildlife, Acorn Camping and Glamping can’t accept dogs.

Hobbit Hole cabin (secluded)

Liked: We loved our stay at the Acorn! The campsite is just beautifully and harmoniously integrated in the woods and very well preserved. We stayed at the Hobbit Hole, which was very cosy and had an amazing view. We really appreciated the patio in front of the hut and that kitchenware was provided so we could make our breakfast and dinner. Useful information and guidance were also available in the hut (including places to eat/walk nearby). The hosts were very friendly and helpful when we needed to buy gas bottles and logs. The toilets and showers facilities were also nice and convenient to reach. Finally, the location was great for driving/cycling to a nearby beach and/or small port towns like Charlestown. Overall, a truly beautiful experience that I can't wait to repeat when I'll have the chance!

Shepherd's hut

Liked: We were looked after very well and had a lovely time walking around the local area, our accomodation was originally in one of their shepherd's huts but we got offered moved into a hobbit hole by the capsite owners due to an injury regarding rolling my ankle on the hills up to the hut, luckily this didn't ruin our stay as the injury lasted around 24hours. Both accomodations had amazing views and cosy rooms. Highly recommend if you want an off grid camping/glamping adventure, remember to bring your own toilet roll if you do go!

Shepherd's hut

Liked: The sceneri so beautiful. Loves the place we stay. So quite and perfect for healing.

Disliked: Bathroom quite distance. Amd showerbonly one, the other 2 is out of order. Only one socket to charge near the place fridge and freezer. Happened to me one day I run out off battery on mobile. Went out and bring a charger; lucky found a lovely coffe shop and they have a plug for me to charge. Relief.😉

Hobbit Hut cabin

Liked: Stay was amazing, location couldn't not be better, loved it ❤️

Disliked: I will definitely come back again, but please you need to fix showers and maybe to give more information on reservation which hobbit house is booked for you, we ended up searching for long time but other than that it is great place to stay.

Shepherd's hut

Liked: Nice little Shepherds hut. The place has an excellent "magical woods" character, with charming "hobbit-hole" accommodation . A couple of pleasant walks around the site.

Disliked: Be prepared for undulating ground. It was a bit of trek to the car park. Access to the site is difficult for larger vehicles due to narrow roads. The Shepherd hut has no kitchen area and you'll need to buy gas canisters from a cupboard at the back of the owners house. It also has no electricity or wifi.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: lovely quiet beautiful site great location for Eden

Disliked: the photos on line are misleading as it looks like there are streams and waterways but actually there's none at all - the brook you can hear is only accessible if you walk on the road

Local attractions

Cornwall has hundreds of miles’ worth of walking and cycling trails, but a fine place to start is on the Saints Way, five minutes’ walk from Acorn – it’s a belter of a trip, even if you only do a few of its 27 miles (ideally those that deliver you to the Eden Project). Take to two wheels to cover local cycle trails such as the Camel Trail from Padstow or the gentler trip from the site to Luxulyan village; from here you can take the trains that run from Par to Newquay. Five minutes in the car brings you to Cornwall’s south coast – the nearest beach is three miles away but you might also like to go dolphin and seal spotting from Mevagissey, or take the kids to one of the many family attractions around the coast like the Wingz Bird and Animal Sanctuary at Par. National Trust houses and gardens are plentiful in Cornwall too: Falmouth’s Trebah Gardens should be a hit for all ages, and one of the very-must-sees in Cornwall is St Austell’s Lost Gardens of Heligan.
