  • Quiet Cornwall family campsite 15 minutes’ walk from Harlyn Bay
  • Padstow 10 minutes’ drive; Camel Creek Family Theme Park 15 minutes
  • Spacious grass pitches; 10 minutes’ walk to pubs, shops and takeaways
Love the idea of a Cornish seaside holiday and also rather fancy eating well? Well, here’s your chance, for a holiday under canvas at Lower Harlyn Sights puts you within 15 minutes’ walk of Harlyn Bay, and 10 minutes’ drive of several other sandy beaches as well as the gourmet hotspot that is Padstow. If surfing, swimming, hiking and theme-parking with the kids are likely to fill your days, it’s good to know you should have plenty of peace and quiet on the spacious (and level) camping field, which has plenty of distance between pitches for extra privacy. Kids and well-behaved dogs are welcome on site – there’s lots of room for having a kick around with a ball – but single-sex groups are not allowed, so this is not the place for you if you’re looking for a party vibe and late-night music. Simple facilities amount to shower and toilet blocks as well as washing-up sinks. As far as catering goes, you're welcome to bring barbecues from home – but please keep them off the ground so you don’t damage the grass. You can replenish food supplies in the convenience stores at St Merryn (about 10 minutes’ walk), where there are also a couple of takeaways and pubs. And of course, you’ve got all the temptations of Padstow’s dining scene, ranging from fish and chip shops to Michelin-starred restaurants.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The sight had all the necessities, clean showers, toilets and washing up areas. Public footpath just outside the entrance which keeps you off the roads, leading you to the beaches. Sea view from the field.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The site was beautiful very well kept grounds and the view over the hedges of the sea was very nice. Not to mention the facilities which were unbelievable for a campsite and by far the best I’ve seen. Could not recommend lower Harlyn sights anymore. Also it’s amazing just how close it is located to Harlyn bay, merely a 10 minute walk down to the bay from the site. Also to note, owner James was an absolute gentleman and a great chap very welcoming and helpful. (Perfect place to catch some stars too, weather dependant of course)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The owner was very welcoming and friendly. Toilet and shower facilities were very clean. Very peaceful and Dog friendly. Short walk to the village for groceries and 10 a minute walk to Harlyn beach which you can also walk to the to the other surrounding beaches via the coastal paths. Stayed for a couple of days but was well worth the travel. The dog loved it! Will we be definitely coming back soon!

Liked The campsite was extremely quiet and peaceful with views of the sea, incredible sunset and a short walk to the beach! The facilities on site were also lovely with several nice toilets and the most incredible working hot showers! BBQs are allowed so that was very lovely in the evening and the campsite owner James was very friendly, welcoming and helpful!

Local attractions

Ready to hit the beach(es)? Gather the family up for the 15-minute stroll to horseshoe-shaped Harlyn Bay, where you can kayak, take the kids rockpooling or go surfing, or venture a little further afield for consistent surf at Porthcothan, Trevone and Constantine bays (all less than 10 minutes’ drive). And when you’ve ticked off as many beaches as possible, amble the coast path to the landmark white tower of Trevose Head Lighthouse (40 minutes’ walk) in bracing sea air. For other expeditions, pick up the Camel Trail at Padstow (10 minutes) to follow the spectacular section of the Camel Estuary from Padstow to Wadebridge (two hours on foot, half an hour by bike). More ambitious hikes can be found along the South West Coast Path (10 minutes), where you’ll be rewarded with stunning views over the Atlantic Ocean from soaring headlands. Turning inland, you can let younger kids loose on the fairground rides at Camel Creek Family Theme Park (15 minutes), or scare yourselves all witless during guided ghost walks of the creepy prison cells at the Bodmin Jail Attraction (half an hour).
