  • Quiet Cornish farm site with spectacular sea views
  • A mile from Mawnan Smith; 15 minutes' drive from Falmouth
  • Play area; footpath to the beach, 1.5 miles away
'The best of Cornwall at your fingertips' is how the Penwarne Campsite team describe their patch. A description that you'd be hard-pressed to quibble with given its stunning sea views, easy access to Falmouth and area of outstanding natural beauty location. Penwarne Campsite makes a credible claim to being one of the oldest in all of Cornwall, having welcomed guests here since the 1920s. The site grounds have been worked by the Mann family since 1886, so your hosts are long-standing locals with lots of insider tips about the surrounding area. Although the farm is located inland, Maenporth beach is a mile and a half away and can be directly accessed via a well-maintained footpath. Walks in local woodlands are also within easy reach, and when it's time for a pint you're also just a mile from Mawnan Smith's village pub. On-site facilities are another of Penwarne Campsite's strong points: guests have a play area, toilet block and shower. Well-behaved dogs are allowed here too, and you're more than welcome to set up a barbecue and campfire (as long as a few simple safety rules are followed, of course).

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Site was exactly as it said, easy to find, peaceful and surrounded by countryside. We walked to the beach which was amazing!!! Highly recommend people do that

Disliked The signs for the path to the beach could have been better! We found the right path by chance.

If you like no facilities go if not don’t go there.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Good views:

Disliked The toilets and showers were dirty, dark, muddy & grassy. No thought has been put into dry changing areas. There is a large fridge and a freezer in the walk-way into the ladies toilets, making the entrance a squeeze and oppressive. No hot water taps in the washing up area, only cold water taps and a kettle.

The play area would not pass a health and safety inspection, the wood was rotten, and monkey bars are missing from where they should be and have not been replaced.

The field and walk to the toilets is very boggy and muddy; not at all like the road and marked out pitches photographed on the website.

Would visit again - but not the best in the area.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The view and the cows
Well located
Good wash up facilities
Nice bathroom sinks
Lovely farmer with the best Cornish accent

Disliked No one to meet you on check in
Lots of rubbish every where
The electric hook ups haven’t been maintained
Very annoying noise coming from something in the shower room… making it quite creepy. Like a kids toy going off over and over again.
Lots of cobwebs and spiders in the showers and low diving walls between. Felt like I was being watched the whole time. Probably by the spiders.

Convenient for the Falmouth area with a great overlook

Local attractions

It's a pretty place, is Penwarne. Located in a coastal area of outstanding natural beauty, this site has plenty of choice for excursions around and about. Sticking locally, you might like to sail by ferry over the Helford (five minutes' drive) for trips to secluded spots like Bosahan Cove, or to stay on the north bank of the river to survey the seasonal blooms at Trebah Garden (also five minutes). Green-fingered guests have lots more foliage to take in around this part of the coast – there's Glendurgan Garden (five minutes) next to the South West Coast Path and the jungle-like oasis at Penjerrick (five minutes), both of which can be comfortably reached on foot from base if you fancy a stretch of the legs. Of course, peaceful days homing in on all that horticulture might not be the best of bets if you've got kids to entertain. Handily, this part of Cornwall is also full of family-friendly attractions like Flambards Theme Park (25 minutes) and the Lappa Valley's steam railway (45 minutes), which can be easily interspersed with the calm and quiet of Kynance Cove (40 minutes) or ice creams on Falmouth seafront (15 minutes).
