  • Shepherd's hut with hot tub on the Hartland Heritage Coast
  • A 20-minute drive from Bude and Clovelly; 30 minutes from Westward Ho!
  • Peaceful location in Lower Woodford, a mile from a local café
This smart site in the Cornish countryside makes a top choice for lovebirds, rustic ramblers and pretty much anyone looking for a peaceful break in green surrounds. Located in the village of Lower Woodford, St Faith's Holidays on the Hartland Heritage Coast is within easy reach of the sea – sandy Stanbury Mouth is about a 20-minute stroll away, as are the spectacular vistas of the South West Coast Path. The accommodation here is high-spec indeed: the huts are positioned to catch maximum sunshine throughout the afternoon, while the private hot tub is a fab spot to unwind and watch the sun go down in the evening (hot tub available by arrangement with the owners for an extra fee, payable in cash per night). Gorgeous views are to be had at all times of day – guests here stay in a meadow, overlooking fields and hedgerows that gently slope down towards the sea (how fab). After an open-air soak or an alfresco meal, visitors can be pretty sure of a good night's sleep thanks to the cosy interiors and comfy double bed. In terms of catering, there's a kitchen area (including hob and fridge) in each hut so it's a breeze to rustle something up. There's also a local café a mile away for tasty breakfast and lunch options. Travelling with canine companions? A dog bed is provided, along with extra throws, towels and a hose to clean up muddy paws.

Local attractions

Let's face it: country breaks wouldn't be the same without a country boozer or two. Luckily, guests here are a 25-minute stroll from The Bush Inn, a 13th-century pub with top local ales and pub grub, all served with a lavish side of sea views… Speaking of the coast, this area is home to dozens of top seaside spots, including quiet coves, sandy bays and bustling resorts. For a trip back in time, try the car-free village of Clovelly (20 minutes' drive), where the only traffic jams are caused by the village's donkeys. Those looking for sandy times and surfing, meanwhile, should head to Westward Ho! (30 minutes) or Bude (20 minutes). For local history, head to Hawker's Hut on the coast path (about 10 minutes' drive): the National Trust's smallest property, this seaside shack was built by an eccentric clergyman in the mid 19th century. At the other end of the scale, the sprawling stately parkland at Dunsland (30 minutes) is a splendid spot for regal walks and picnics. For medieval days out, make tracks for Tintagel (40 minutes), whose castle and old post office draw visitors from far and wide.
