  • Small woodland glamping site on a quiet Surrey estate
  • A 15-minute drive from Guildford and Loseley Park
  • Smart, fully-furnished canvas accommodation in scenic surroundings
When one is in the mood for smart and relaxed glamping, there's simply nowhere quite like Surrey. For a cool and contemporary Home Counties stay that doesn't skimp on any luxuries, make for Surrey Hills Glamping, an all-canvas spot on a peaceful private estate. Set on the edge of the Winterfold Forest, it's simple to set out from base on woodland rambles and admire the berries, bluebells and other assorted wild sights, depending on the time of year. Those who like their natural décor also have a lake to visit, while away from base you have the whole of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to explore. Coarse fishing at Willinghurst Fishery, a top-rated angling spot, is a few minutes' walk away. The bell tents at Surrey Hills Glamping are snug, cosy and tastefully decorated – each unit is decked out differently, so you could end up staying in a seaside, explorer or woodland-themed suite. These canvas hideaways come with proper bedding, furniture, cooking utensils and outdoor seating, with shared toilets and showers a short walk away across the field. Guildford town centre is 15 minutes away by road, while the village of Shamley Green is a mile down the road. Make tracks for the latter if you need the services of a pub (there are two), cricket pitch, deli, convenience store or post office.

Local attractions

Guildford (15 minutes' drive) has a wonderfully wide range of things to do: bowling, cinemas, high street shopping, a regular farmers' market and a castle are all available if you're planning day trips to the town centre. In the surrounding countryside, meanwhile, you could meander around the stately grounds of Loseley Park (15 minutes) or benefit from some artsy inspiration at Watts Gallery (20 minutes), where there's also an artists' village. This part of the country also has its fair share of golf courses – Cranleigh Golf and Country Club (five minutes) and Bramley Golf Club (10 minutes) both have well-tended links to try out if you're after a genteel afternoon. But wilder times are also on offer if you head to the segways and treetop trails at Alice Holt Go Ape (35 minutes) or the big, high-adrenaline rides at Thorpe Park (45 minutes). Looking for a spell of saltier air? While there's also much to appreciate inland, it's worth bearing in mind that this site is an hour's drive from coastal spots like Brighton (for bohemian vibes), Chichester (for Roman ruins) and Worthing (a classic seaside town with a pier and lido).
