  • Relaxed family-run campsite 10 minutes’ drive from Goudhurst in Kent
  • Sissinghurst Castle Garden 20 minutes’ drive; Camber Sands 40 minutes
  • Dog-friendly rural location with pick-your-own grass pitches
Family-run for families, T&J Campsite sits on the Kent and Sussex border in 13 acres of dog-friendly fields and woodland. The place has a relaxed vibe about it too; with no set pitches you can set up wherever you fancy in the level camping meadows, while open fires (logs are sold at reception) and barbecues are positively encouraged so you get the full-blown camping-under-the-stars experience. Amenities stretch to a shower block with an outdoor washing-up station and laundry facilities. You can walk your four-legged friends among the trees that surround the site, keep younger kids occupied with running around at the playground, and treat all well-behaved offspring to ice cream from the truck that turns up from time to time. The site is 10 minutes’ drive from tea rooms and pubs in Goudhurst, where you can also restock essentials at a couple of convenience stores. Set out on foot and it will take around half an hour to reach Bedgebury National Pinetum and Forest for woodland strolls, or head for Bewl Water Aqua Park (five minutes’ drive) to mess around on floating obstacle courses and paddleboards. Hopping in the car soon has you chilling on the extensive beach at Camber Sands (40 minutes) too.

Electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: The spacious well kept pitches and the play park was great for our son and he had a great time making friends. Nice hot showers and hot water in washing up sinks.

Disliked: The only things we didn't like but it wouldn't stop us coming back was the checking in procedure and lack of signage at enterance to know where to go in from the main road. Very impersonal check in and we had to find where things were ourselves like water toilets etc it may help to have a map up somewhere to help this issue.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Simple check in and friendly staff. Good toilet and shower facilities. The freedom to make your own open fire. Choice of pitches either open field or under/within tree areas. Nice open space. Bins scattered throughout the site. Motorbike friendly. Good rides nearby.

Disliked: Close to the A21 so road noise was quite loud at times even through the night.

Electric hardstanding and grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked: Helpful staff who came out to help when we had issues even late at night. The pitch was a good size and we were able to fit our large tent comfortably. Fire pits and bbqs were allowed Bins were in reach on the access tracks

Disliked: The noise from the A21 was constant and most nights about 2/3am the lorries felt the need to use their horn. The noise from the road was noticeable most times of the day. The cleanliness of the toilets could be better, most nights had some rain and understandable mud would be trod into the toilets but other than the Friday evening (stay was Friday to Monday), any time either of us went to the toilets either the men’s or the women’s toilets had lots toilet paper on the floor and dirt in the showers and seemed to have not been cleaned over the weekend. The showers themselves did have issues with going hot and cold
