Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Close to river, size

Disliked: Facilities very dirty the whole time. Expensive for what it was.

From the manager: I am sorry you did not enjoy your 1 night stay. The showers and toilets had 3 daily cleans and we ask guests to tidy up after themselves as much as possible, this is in writing along with the campsite rules handed out when everyone checks-in. Our prices are in-line with other campsites in Kent.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Great weekend again with friends out in the countryside at Hop Farm. Enjoying nature and relaxing walking to pub and having bbq. Nice to be able to camp together in a field (motorhome, tents, top box tents) Great shower and toilet block with hot water. Enjoyed car boot sale Saturday and Sunday too.

Disliked: So many bugs! As expected when camping The field was hard to peg the tent in Bad signal

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for choosing to stay with us. The bugs are annoying as lots of fields and water around. We have had a fairly dry summer making the ground very hard, campers using the metal pegs with plastic tops had difficulty getting them out of the ground and many broke off. The phone signals are poor at times even in the office, mind you it does stop work getting in touch with you and those with teenagers do not need to confiscate their phones which can be a bonus. We look forward to your next visit.

A good location for a stopover.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Clean toilets and showers. Nice bridle paths for walking. Nice level pitch. Good value for money.

Disliked: On arrival at reception the female receptionist did not even acknowledge our presence but instructed the male who was present, to deal with us which he did in a half hearted manner. Maybe they’d had a long day ? I don’t know. Not impressive. Sorry. Big fail. Campsite was noisy with road noise from nearby main thoroughfare. Party ongoing until 3:00 am. Poor lighting in general and poor signage for anything including the site vehicle exit.

From the manager: When you arrived in the evening I was in the middle of sending a guest due to stay an urgent email and asked the other staff to member to check you in to avoid you having to wait. I am sorry that you felt neglected and ignored by us and did not enjoy your overnight stay. When I came out at 10pm to lock the gates I checked that there was no music being played or loud talking, the whole of the campsite at this point was very quiet. On the front of your check-in card under your pitch number and above your name is printed the 24 hour number to call for any issues or concerns whilst you are staying. The field you stayed on has low lighting in several areas and the lights from the washing-up sinks and showers/toilets also light up the bridge across to them. When you book on Pitch-up under the Please Note section it says, Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit. As the campsite is near the main road there will be some traffic noise.

Electric grass pitch

Liked: Friendly staff but thats it really

Disliked: This camp site seemed abit run down the pitches need to be marked up better & there was beer cans in the ditches! As for the shower/toilet block this was just vile there is mould around the tiles in the showers & the dirt under the shower floormats was just unacceptable the shower heads are grimy too! also the lights go off wen your on the loo or in the shower! i didnt see one cleaner there the whole 4 days i stayed!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay and your comments appear to be comparing us to a 4 star hotel with private en-suite facilities. Other guests staying the same time as yourselves have given positive reviews saying how nice and clean the facilities were and even extended their stay with us. As there was a lot of rain and this is a campsite mud and grass will be walked into the toilets and showers, the cleaner was there twice on the Thursday you arrived and 3 times per day on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, again twice on the Monday you left, I do not know how you missed them! I will pass on your comment regarding the lights on a timer as now we are out of season there are not many guests using them and the sensors are not in the toilets.

Local attractions

Once the kids let you off site, Kent (aka The Garden of England) has beaches, historic towns, forests and more castles, stately homes (and gardens) open to the public than anywhere else in the country. If this isn't enough, Paddock Wood railway station is five minutes’ drive from The Hop Farm for a train to London, less than an hour away. Dover is within 60 miles for a day trip to France. Kent has 350 miles of coastline, with Blue Flag beaches, watersports and those famous white cliffs at Dover. Eight of the 11 Blue Flaggers are in Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs; Whitstable and Herne Bay are also popular with oyster eaters, anglers and jetskiers. There are umpteen options for families in the area including play centres, farms, horse riding and days out. Howletts Wild Animal Park at Canterbury has the biggest group of looked-after gorillas in the world and experiences for visitors such as junior ranger days. Penshurst Place and Gardens has historical re-enactments, children’s trails, an adventure playground and special events during the school holidays. Both Leeds Castle at Maidstone and Hever Castle near Edenbridge are family-friendly and packed with activities and events. There’s a Go Ape! at Leeds Castle as well as two mazes, boat trips, falconry displays, underground grotto and the Knights' Realm Playground, a scale model of the castle (and a golf course and golf instruction for the grownups). Hever, the childhood home of Anne Boleyn, has a yew maze and water maze, award-winning gardens and a topiary. Back with the big folk, the old market towns of Tonbridge, Maidstone, Sevenoaks and Tonbridge Wells are close by for shopping and sightseeing. Bluewater shopping centre is in Greenhithe (rival Lakewater is just over the Essex border at West Thurrock).
