Non-electric grass pitch

Liked: Being next to the wild meadow. We even saw a barn owl. Good sized pitches snd the pitch snd putt was fun.

Disliked: Small wooden stakes marking pitches were quite dangerous in the central areas of the field. When dusk it was worrying that the kids might trip on them.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Lovely site with lots of nature. Lovely walks. Full of activities for the family. Nice bar and restaurant with live entertainment on selected nights. Beautiful fishing lake - don’t forget your rods! Really good size pitches. Toilets and shower areas were regularly cleaned. Would highly recommend. We will be returning.

Disliked: Welcome pack would have been good, even if it just contained the site map. More toilet facilities and bigger shower cubicles. Shop not being open until July, such a shame as they could of earned a fair bit of custom this weekend alone.

Electric gravel touring pitch

Liked: Bar staff were very helpful & attentive; ground staff (Australian guy & young lad on his 1st day of apprenticeship) so helpful, kind & friendly and full of interesting facts about the local area & tips on where to visit.

Disliked: No information pack given, the site is advertised as somewhere with lots of activities & things to do but there was no information regarding this & nothing to tell you how to do these things; it’s not made clear that the restaurant is only open until 2pm through the week. The gym, bar & play barn are accessible to non campers, who also have access to the pitches - as there is no security or gates whatsoever, you actually pass the entrance to the pitches. The ladies toilets were cleaned on the day we arrived & then not cleaned for 2 days & who ever had used them had left them in a disgusting state. The charge of over £50 per night is utterly diabolical & takes the Mickey.

Local attractions

Marwell Zoo (five minutes' drive) has over 140 different species to admire – you can also leave the car back at base and stroll over (about 20 minutes) for a pedestrian safari. Paultons Park (25 minutes' drive) is another perennial fave for family-oriented days out – here you can meet Peppa Pig, crash down log flumes or opt for wanders through a dinosaur-filled forest. The South Downs National Park has some truly splendid hiking trails, including the 100-mile-long South Downs Way (the trail starts 15 minutes down the road in Winchester). Mountain bikers also have plenty to choose from around these parts – an exhilarating bike track through the woods is on hand in the nearby village of Bishopstoke (10 minutes). The gorgeous New Forest National Park (25 minutes) is also within easy reach, and one of the best ways to get around is by open-top tour bus. There are three routes to choose from – it all comes down to whether you prefer vistas of heather-covered heathland or coastal explores. Speaking of the sea, beaches like Lepe and Highcliffe Castle (both 40 minutes) are very much worth the journey (make sure to pack jelly shoes and a towel if at all tempted).
