  • Wild-style camping pitches at a scenic 50-acre site in the New Forest
  • Direct New Forest access; 15 minutes’ drive to New Forest Water Park
  • Pop-up coffee truck, pizza oven and cocktail bar; pub 25 minutes’ walk
If you’d like to try wild camping, but like the sound of some little luxuries on hand, Harry’s Meadow may be the compromise for you. Set in a flat, 50-acre wildflower meadow guarded by an avenue of ancient oak trees, the campsite is located in the grounds of a (private) manor house and has spectacular views across the Avon Valley. As there are no allocated pitches, feel free to set up wherever you like – this is wild camping with bonuses. Harry’s Meadow has powerful hot showers and compost loos plus firepits for hire as well as seasoned wood to buy, but please do note that there is no electric hook-up. Any other little luxuries? Well… yes. A choice of pop-up food trucks are on site daily, from a van serving barista coffee and fresh Danish pastries in the morning, to an ever-popular cocktail truck and a local brewery supplying organic ales. At the weekend, you also have a choice of punchy prawn bhuna or stone-baked pizza for evening meals. As if all that’s not enough to keep you all fed and watered, you can stroll to the well-loved local pub just down the road in Woodgreen (25 minutes’ walk), for a warm welcome from the landlord. If you fancy venturing further out and about, speak to the friendly site staff, who can advise on your options.

Local attractions

Although there is space for dogs and kids to run around safely on site, there’s also a big common surrounded by woods in Woodgreen (25 minutes’ walk), which is a popular spot for playing ball games and running wild. In fact, the whole area is great for walking and cycling, with many paths and tracks leading into the New Forest. There are loads of swimming options for you to enjoy as well, from a day trip to the beach (Hengistbury Head is the nearest – 40 minutes’ drive) to a dip in the lakes at New Forest Water Park (15 minutes). If you fancy something a bit different, there’s also wild swimming on the River Avon a short walk from the site. For special days out with the kids, Liberty’s Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre (20 minutes) offers flying displays and reptile houses, while families can Segway and journey on a narrow-gauge railway at Moors Valley Country Park and Forest (half an hour). And of course, the rides at Paultons Park Home of Peppa Pig World (25 minutes) keep kids happy for hours.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Amazing campsite. Everyone was friendly, the facilities were great with lovely hot showers and areas to wash up. The setting was beautiful and a short walk in both directions to a pub. The grass pitch was comfortable to sleep on and there was so much space. The silent disco for kids, food trucks and fire pits were an added bonus. We would definitely return!!

Disliked: Very little to dislike! The £4 for a sausage bap with only 1 small sausage inside was my only complaint haha

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: This was the first time we have camped in the New Forest and we booked very last minute. We absolutely loved Harry's Meadow! Everything was great, the extra luxuries were so nice to have - coffee, pastries, gin & tonics, beer and food vans. But they were also self contained enough that we could easily ignore them if we didn't want them. Loos, showers, washing up - all very well organised and good. Absolute bonus for us was the pilates on Sunday with Harriet followed by a swim in the river. And everyone working at Harry's Meadow was sooo nice! It felt both organised and easy going, nothing seemed to be a bother. Thanks so much for having us. Xx

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The area was lovely, a bit hard to find as the entrance is a sudden left on a corner. However the toilets and showers were kept clean, could do with more showers, especially during the busy periods. Overall a great stay and experience. Food trucks daily, great tasting freshly made pizza.

Disliked: Less showers than needed.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Location, friendly staff. Liked the bar area, just a shame about the selection and prices.

Disliked: Hardly a meadow, terrible ground to pitch on, really expensive for what it is, food van was rubbish and overpriced.
