What customers say

Peaceful, spacious gem with stunning country views. Nature lovers rave about spotless loos & showers with heaps of hot water. Friendly owners and pick-your-own pitches add to the chill vibe. Be aware of occasional camper noise and a few found the hilly pitches tricky when busy.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Never ran out of free hot water, scenic site with plenty of space

Disliked Very hilly site and the toilet block needs refitting. Broken doors and the shower arrangement is poor for privacy and hanging clothes. Poor signage and reception appeared to be closed.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Gorgeous setting, great location between Hastings and Rye - lots of good walking paths and routes nearby and two pubs in walking distance. Good showers/toilets. Nice that they get people to take their cars off site as it gives it a nature feel. Overall we really enjoyed our stay.

Disliked There were two large groups who were very noisy - so not a place for if you’re looking for a bit of peace and tranquility. Not much of a presence of the owners/staff.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Easy, simple camping. Very budget friendly. Very quiet site during week, it did get busier at the weekend with a couple of big groups. Short drive to a lovely beach, and local pub.

Neither good or bad - I would note some of the roads were very small with some steep hills which came as a challenge for me as someone that lives in a very flat area of the UK.

Disliked With the larger groups the toilets did become unclean. More regular cleaning of the facilities would be better but this is more a reflection on the people staying and not leaving them in a nice condition, rather than the site.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great location and really lovely, calm site. Loved our stay here ❤️
Clean facilities - washing up area, fire pits to borrow with wood you can buy and 2 toilets&2 showers for the ladies. Might be a too few if the camp was busier though.

Disliked Water in showers was too hot for me and my friend but others might prefer it- better that it being freezing cold!!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked As expected, wild-ish camping with the ability to pitch your tent wherever you want too. Feels very tucked away which was great.

Disliked Wasn't the quietest camping experience we've ever had.

A good amount of noise could be heard from all over the site till the early hours.

Not ideal with two small children.

Local attractions

Although it’s in a secluded spot, Oak Valley Camping is close to some splendid parts of Sussex, including its coast and seaside towns. The medieval Cinque Port of Rye, with yachts at the harbour, Castle Museum, nature reserves and Rye Harbour SSSI, is within a short drive. Also, speed along to old Hastings, 15 minutes away, for its Old Town and fishing quarters, beach and arcades, Priory Meadow shopping centre, two cliff railways and the Hastings Fisherman's Museum at Rock-a-Nore. Just outside town, A Smuggler's Adventure at St Clements Caves covers the smuggling history of this part of the coast, as well as the caves’ setting as a hiding and refuge place throughout the ages and during World War II. There’ll likely be a festival around whichever time of the year you’re visiting: a few options throughout the East Sussex year are the Hastings Wine and Seafood Festival, Rye Bay Scallop Week, Pirate Day, May Day and the Hastings Old Town Carnival Week, along with loads of other smaller events. The Oak Valley team also recommends a wander around Winchelsea, the town with a boat and jetski launch, ancient history and a small museum.
