  • Quiet campsite in rural Lancashire for adults only
  • A mile from Chorley town centre; Go Ape Rivington 10 minutes' drive
  • Dog-friendly pitches beneath Healy Nab; pub 10 minutes' walk away
Primrose Cottage Camping – a sweet-smelling name indeed, with spectacular countryside views to match. Set amid grassy fields, woodlands and streams in the lovely Lancashire countryside, this site is an excellent spot for back to basics camping in a low-key setting – and as an adults-only site, it does not accept children. Located beneath Healy Nab and next to Blackbrook stream, the site is hidden away in the local countryside. Flat walks along both footpaths and canals are available a few hundred yards from the site gates, making it a cinch to get out there and explore Lancashire's best scenic spots and wildlife havens… Strolling through the local landscape is, of course, an activity you can get up to with your dog if you've brought one along – Primrose Cottage Camping has pet-friendly rules, with polite four-legged friends welcome here all year round. In fact, all guests at this quiet site are asked to be polite and keep any music at a low level for the benefit of everyone around. Chorley town centre is a mile away, although with the rural views here you wouldn't know it. The closest pub is 10 minutes' walk away, and are plenty more pubs, shops and cafés in town within easy reach either on foot (20 minutes' walk) or by car (five minutes' drive). There's also good access to the speedy M61 for long-distance drives to the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District, both of which can be reached within an hour.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Loved the location - easy to get to using public transport since we had no car. Beautiful area - the owner very kindly recommended some walks for us and even gave us detailed instructions on the route, loved it. Pub nearby (gentle and flst 10min walk, not muddy path) serving food. Aso it was not too far from the town with more restaurants and takeaways if needed (buses running roughly every hour from the pub, there's a taxi rank in town and it costs about £5 from the centre). Beautiful and flat field to stay at so we felt like we had our own corner, completely private from other campers, nice and quiet. Toilets very well maintained, cold water not an issue for us and we were prewarned. Great to have the option to rent a fire pit (none for us due to the rain however). Lovely to see horses in the next field. Not too much sheep noise either phew. I could hear the road but it was more like distant gentle white noise rather than sounds of cars so it's not at all an issue. Bird song was our main soundtrack actually. Owner was lovely and super helpful, very easy to contact as well. The site has very good phone signal for those who need it.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: Lovely site with good ground, very spacious, pretty and secluded. Lots of wildlife, great walks from the site and short drives away. Well kept site with clean and plentiful facilities. Nice vibe with fellow campers. Me and my pupper had a great weekend.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked: The toilet facilities were amazing and the owners were very helpful. We'd actually made a mistake with our booking and they were really accommodating. They even stepped in to help with our tent when the rain started to get it up quicker!

Disliked: My only small dislike was the noise of the motorway during the night. It didn't make a huge difference overall though.

From the manager: Hi Rhiannon, we got there in the end! Glad you enjoyed your stay ☺️

Non-electric grass campervan pitch

Liked: Beautiful field and lovely toilet block, the description of 'portaloo' is misleading - there are proper toilets with wash-hand basins in a lovely wooden hut. These are the only facilities but it was all we needed for a one-night stay on our way home from Scotland!
