  • Waterside Cumbrian retreat in the rural Eden Valley
  • Three miles from Kirkoswald; 30 minutes' drive to the Lake District
  • All pitches come with a firepit and picnic bench; coarse fishing lake
Established in 2021, High Hall Campsite gives you the opportunity to come and experience everything that makes Cumbria tick. Tucked away under the hills of the North Pennine fells and set deep in the gorgeous Eden Valley, this modern site is an excellent place to arrange a relaxed rural retreat. The grounds here are divided by Croglin Beck, a scenic stream that meanders its way through the middle of the site. There are plenty of waterside views around and the wildlife is abundant: red squirrels, roe deer, barn owls and kingfishers could be among the creatures you spot. There are also farm animals to admire and a well-stocked coarse fishing lake that guests can use free of charge. (Please note that a catch-and-return fishing policy is in place.) This Cumbrian campsite is fairly remote, but it's easy to drop by in Kirkoswald (three miles from base), an Eden Valley village with a hotel, pub, convenience store and ruined castle. High Hall Campsite is located on the edge of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding National Beauty. This secluded site would also make a good base for day trips to the Lake District, as the national park is approximately 30 minutes away by road.

What customers say

High Hall Farm has big, neat spots in a gorgeous, quiet area with great views. River and fishing lake nearby. Owners are super friendly and helpful. Facilities are top-notch, including a great honesty shop in the barn. Fire pits and picnic benches are a bonus. Eco-toilets got mixed feedback, but flushing loos and showers are close. Perfect for families and couples wanting a chill break.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Had a lovely time away campsite was very generous with size of pitches. We went for fishing and we weren't disappointed we caught a few small ones ( lost a big one)There local meat is to die for especially the lamb chops and eggs.Im not used to the eco toilets so the smell was not what im used to but they were usable and well stocked with toilet roll.

Disliked .

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Such an amazing site with everything you need. Beautifully set out to make the most of the beck and fishing lake. We were in a stunning pitch tucked away down by the river. Facilities were great and my kids loved the ping pong and watching the sunset from the swings. Fiona was an amazing host who checked in to make sure everything was okay, but wasn’t overbearing. Thank you for a brilliant 5 days….just what we needed.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Big plus was that they were able to accommodate 18 of us in 4 different parties together on pitches next to each other.

Great space and scenery, beautiful site. Fire pits provided was great.

Disliked Composite toilets, need to remove the white plastic at the front of them. There were on several occasions where someone had left a BIG No 2 in there. Removing the plastic means that would happen.

Electric grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Beautiful site with massive flat private pitches and plenty of space. Fire pit and picnic table included. Fishing was a bonus and we caught several small carp and one whopper. We loved everything about it, especially the cat!

Disliked The composting toilets on the site were challenging for some - flushing toilets and power showers available a short pleasant walk away!

Local attractions

There's a lot to see and do in the local area without venturing far: Kirkoswald Castle (10 minutes' drive) is well worth a visit, as are Lacy's Caves (15 minutes), a series of five sandstone chambers carved out by an eccentric 18th-century landowner. On a slightly grander scale, there are also ancient sites like Hadrian's Wall (20 minutes) and Birdoswald Roman Fort (35 minutes). If you're Lakeland bound, start off in Pooley Bridge (30 minutes), a pretty little waterside town where you can catch the Ullswater steamer service to gorgeous Glenridding at the other end of the lake. The market town of Keswick (45 minutes) on the shores of Derwentwater is easily accessible too – head here for boat hire, to browse an array of independent shops or to visit the Derwent Pencil Museum and learn about the local graphite industry. If you want to cover varied terrain, you're in the right place: this site is three miles down the road from the Coast to Coast cycle route (join at the bottom of Hartside Pass), and if you fancy dipping dipping your toe in the Yorkshire Dales it's easy to hop on the Settle to Carlisle railway 10 minutes down the road at Lazonby.
